Cheverton dies in Greenwood Edwin C. Cheverton, 62, of Route 1, Silverstreet, died Mon day at a Greenwood hospital. He was bom in Chicago, 111., son of the late George H. and Cora Forbes Cheverton. He liv ed in Oak Park, 111. prior to moving to Silverstreet two years ago. He was amember of the Assembly of God in Berwyn, 111., but attended the Chappells Baptist Church. He was a member of the Men’s Club in Cicero, 111., and was active in handicap organi zations. Surviving are his wife Lucy Strickland Cheverton; and three sisters, Mrs. Ruth M. Schulp of Medlothain, 111., Mrs. Charles Housinger of Reno, Nev., and Miss Alice Cheverton of Oak Park. Funeral services will be con ducted this (Thursday) after noon at 2 p.m. at Enoree Church of God by the Rev. H. R. Giles and the Rev. Roy Durst. This book, entitled, Jesse Stuart”, his life and works, is autographed by the author, Ev- eretta Love Blair. Stuart i s Poet Laureate of the State of Kentucky, also short story writ er. novelist and lecturer. He has been called, “The Voice ol the Kentucky Hills.” Dr. Blair, who is one of the few women ever to receive a Ph. D. in English from the Un- The Fire Report May 23: The Little Mountain Fire Department answered a call to a grass fire on the rail road near Little Mountain; min or damage. May 23. The Pomaria and Consolidated fire departments answered a call to an old gin- house near Pomaria. The build ing had been hit by lightning and was a total loss. May 23: A vacant house on Highway 76 below Prosperity was struck by lightning. The house was owned by Ralph Bow ers and Glenn Hamm. There was about $5,000 damage. The call was answered by the fol lowing departments: Prosper ity, Fairview, Little Mountain, and Friendly. May 25: The Prosperity and Fairview departments answered a call to the home of Belton Matthews on Highway 395 near iversity of South Carolina, was formerly a faculty member of Newberry College in the Eng lish Department. As Regent of the D.A.R.University Chapter in Columbia Dr. Blair successfully promoted a fund raising cam paign for the furnishing of a South Carolina room in Consti tution Hall in Washington, D.C. and has procured the space for it.
