Plans for June

The Newberry County Rose
Society is planning a rose show
on June 21 to be held in the
Newberry Federal Savings and
Loan Building. Rose growers
from North Carolina, South
Carolina and Georgia are ask
ed to p^rlrcipaft^ “ ^ ^^
The Society is urging flower
arrangers to participate in the
Artistic Division, Lovely silver
awards are being given to the
blue ribbon winners in each
class.
The theme for the Artistic
Division is “Roses—Life’s Ex
tras.” There will be four ar
rangements in each class, The
following is the schedule:
Class I—“Little Things Mean
a lot”. (Miniature—6”x6”xl0”).
Class II—“The World Is a
Melodious Place Full of Sounds
and Harmony”.
Class III—“Fiery Pageantry”
(An arrangement of red roses.)
Class IV—“Roses—‘Touched
by the Winds Soft Wand”. (Ar
rangement depicting motion-
using pine).
Class V—“Symbols of God’s
Love”. (Religious emphasis, ex
pressing serenity and peace.)
Arrangements must be enter
ed between 7-10:30 a.m. June
21. Roses must be the dominat
ing element in all arrangements
and must be garden grown but
do not have to be grown by
the arranger. ' n

It is urged that all rose ar
rangers and growers partici
pate in horticulture and artist
ic divisions and make this the
most outstanding show held in
this area.

improve the growing, protect
ing, harvesting, and utilization
of our forest resources.

some 600 million dollars to the
economy of our state each year.

Commission of Forestry.)
The forests of Newberry
County, and the products we
derive from our forests, are
essential to the livelihood, well
being and recreation of the cit
izens of the county. Due to the
rapid increase in population,
the demand for forest products
is rising and will increase
sharply by the .year 2000. In
fact, the projection of future
timber needs require us to
double our timber output by
the year 2000. We must plan
and act now so that our forest
resources can be developed to
take advantage of this doubling
of demand.
The Forest Survey findings
give us the basic information
needed to plan Newberry Coun
ty’s forestry program for this
year and the next 10 years,
with an eye on the goals and
results desired for the next 20
and 30 years. The broad areas
of need and opportunity are
clear.
We must improve both the
quality and the level of stock
ing on our commerical forest
land.
