C., Thursday, May 8, 1969 — PAGE 5 School business manager has wide experience Gerald Fred Mount, a I9i># cum laude graduate of New berry College with a degree in education, has been employed by the Newberry County Board of Education as business man ager. A native of Port Arthur, Tex., Mr. Mount attended the city schools of that city and the S. Andrews High school, Charles ton. He was graduated from St. Andrews in 1954, attended Wofford College and graduated from Newberry College. He taught mathematics at Rockingham (N. C.) High for one year. He entered the U. S. Army in July 1959, and was as signed to the Medical Service Corps with the rank of second lieutenant. He was stationed at the Medical Service School, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. Dur ing his three-year tour at the school, which is a branch of the Brooke Army Medical Cen ter, he was assigned duties as management analyst in the Comptroller’s Office and as Ad ministrative Officer of the Med ical Extension Services Divi sion. In these positions, he dealt with manpower, budgets, cur^ riculum and purchasing. After his separation from the Army, Mount returned to serve as principal of Albemarle El ementary School in Charleston. He served in this capacity for three years. In July 1965, he was assign ed to the position of business manager for St. Andrew’s School District No. 10 in which position he was responsible for budgets, purchasing, mainte nance, federal projects, adult education. In July 1968 he was appoint ed purchasing officer for the newly-consolidated Charleston County School District. In this position he is responsible for all purchasing for the county schools, including adult educa tion and federal projects. Other duties include approving in voices and processing for pay ment, maintaining budget bal ances on all major operating accounts and maintaining re cords on contracts and mainte nance agreements. He is married to the former MissJacqueline Crooks of this city and they have two daugh ters, Jana and Jill, and a son, Jimmy. He is a member of the South Carolina Association of School Business Officials, Southeastern Association of School Business Officials and the Association of School Business Officials of the United States and Canada. He is a member of the West Ashley Civitan Club and of the John Wesley Methodist Church where he is serving as Chair man of the Commission on Ed ucation and as a member of the Official Board. Schumpert dies at hospital Perry Alonzo Schumpert, 83, died Saturday night at Newber ry Memorial Hospital after a week’s serious illness. Mr. Schumpert was born and reared in this county and was the son of the late John M. andJane Monts Schumpert. He was a graduate of Newberry College and of the Atlanta Law School. He taught school for several years and was general passenger agent for the South ern Railway for 43 years before retiring several years ago. He was a member of Mt. Pil grim Lutheran Church, a mem ber of the Roome Masonic Lodge No. 746, New York City, and a life member of the Amer ican Association of Passenger Railroad Agents. Surviving are seven nieces and four nephews. His wife, Mrs. Genevieve Lehne Schum pert died several months ago. Funeral services were held Monday from his church with the Rev. J. S.' Wessinger and the Rev. H. J. Harmon conduct ing. Interment was in the church cemetery WORKSHOP TO BE HELD TONIGHT Planning kitchens for effi ciency and beauty will be the topic for the workshop being held tonight (Thursday) at 8 p.m. in the auditorium of the Agricultural Building. Miss Frances Odom, exten sion housing specialist, will conduct the workshop which is open to the public and is plan ned for families building new homes or remodeling present homes.
