dies at home
Mrs. Margaret “Maggie” C.
Higgins Graham, 90, widow ol
Lonnie M. Graham, died at her
home Monday.
She was born in this county,
a daughter of the late Francis
W. and Margaret Caldwell Hig
gins. She was a member of
Central Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons, L.
Clifton and Frank D. Graham

Funeral services were held on
Wednesday afternoon at Whita
ker Funeral Home, conducted
by Rev. Dr. George Duffie. Bur
ial was in Rosemont Cemetery.
Arthur Monts
rites Tuesday
Arthur C. Monts, 80, of Route
2 Chapin, died early Monday
morning at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Alvin Adams of
Route 1 Prosperity, after a crit
ical illness.
Mr. Monts was born in Lex
ington county. He was a retir
ed farmer and a member of
Bethel Lutheran Church and of
the Woodmen of the World.
In addition to his daughter,
he is survived by his wife, five
sons, one brother and one sis
ter.
Funeral services were con
ducted Tuesday at his church
in White Rock by Rev. Guy C.
Cruse. Interment was in the
church ememtery.
Local man’s
sister dies
Mrs. Alma Tarrer Joy, sis
ter of Walter Tarrer of New
berry, died Tuesday in Miami.
Funeral services were held
Thursday in Miami.
Born in Columbia she was
the daughter of the late Keith
and Emma Dean Tarrer. Prior
to moving to Miami, she was
associated with the Standard
Building and Loan Association.
Also surviving are a son,
Keith Joy; a daughter, Mrs.
Harold Lebaugh, both of Mi
ami; and a sister, Mrs. Frank
Nesbitt of Columbia.
Perry Halfacre
rites Wednesday
Perry F. Halfacre, 90, of Rt.
2, died Tuesday morning at the
Newberry hospital.
He was born in this county,
son of the late Perry F. and
Alethia Mathis Halfacre. He
was a retired farmer and a
member of Clayton Memorial
Universalist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Hattie Sease Halfacre; three
sons, Cyril S., Perry E. and
Harry W. Halfacre of Newber
ry; a daughter, Mrs. David
(Troxelle) Senn of Newberry; a
sister Mrs. Pearl Livingston of
Newberry; and three grand
children.
Funeral services were con
ducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at
his church by the Rev. Joseph
Rabun. Burial was in the cem
etery of the church.
Child dies in
farm ditch
Daniel L. Sweat, son of Mr.
and Mrs. James A. Sweat was
found drowned Monday of last
week in a farm irrigation ditch
near his home at Vance.
He was the grandson of Mr.
and Mrs. Nathan O. Kyzer of
this city.
Funeral services were held
last Wednesday afternoon.
WINS CITATION
The Jasper Chapter of the
Daughters of the American Re
volution was awarded a cita
tion at the Continental Con
gress in Washington, D. C. in
April for outstanding accom
plishments in attaining the Hon
or Roll. The Gold award was
for earning fourteen points the
greatest number possible on
those set up as standards.
Mrs. F. Scott Elliott, Sr., the
regent of Jasper, stated that
last year the chapter won the
silver award which is next to
the highest.
