Truesdell, pastor, Aveleigh Presbyterian church, Newberry assumed the presid ency of the Tuberculosis and Health Association of Area Six at the close of the Board of Directors meeting held in Greenwood on March 17. Dr. Truesdell succeeds Richard W. Stowe of Greenwood who has held the office for two years. At the meeting, Mr. Stowe reported that contributions to the Christmas Seal Campaign are still being received and that the total to date exceeds $34,000, an increase over the previous campaign. The board of directors ap proved a report from the per sonnel committee for proced ures in filling the position of Executive Director and adopt ed some revisions in the per sonnel policies. James D. Brown, Newberry, and Rev. J. C. Rice, Ware Shoals, were nominated as representatives Directors to the State Board of Directors. Plans were made for dele gates to attend the 52nd annual meeting of the S. C. TB - RD Association in Columbia March 27. The committee to arrange for this includes Mrs. Jerry E. Rowe of Saluda, D. J. Gray of Edgefield, Miss Grace Summer of Newberry, Mrs. Georee Dunn, McCormick; Mrs. Joe Seal of Greenwood and from fcaurens county, Mrs. S. E. Martin and Mrs. Georgia B. Thomason. Group planning Tricentennial Under the chairmanship of Dr. James C. Kinard, the mem bers of the executive commit tee of the Newberry County Tricentennial Commission are making plans for the observ ance next year of the Tricen tennial. The members are: Mrs. Price Padgett, Owen W. Holmes, Martyn Cavanaugh and William C. Carter. The chairman and Mr. Cav anaugh attended a recent reg ional meeting of the state com mission in Columbia. Mr. Cava naugh presented a splendid re port on the activities of the local committee. Newberry county compares favorably with the other counties in the plans now being made. MEETING SET MONDAY NIGHT On Monday night, March 31, the Newberry County Associa tion for the Retarded Children will meet at 7:30 at the Speers The third annual Palmetto Conference Bayd concert will be presented Sunday afternoon, March 30 at Mid-Carolina high school auditorium at 3:00 p.m. The public is cordially invited. There will be no admission charge. Band students from Mid-Car olina, Whitmire, Greenwood, Laurens, Ninety Six, Winns- boro and Newberry high schools will participate. The musicians auditioned for chair positions two weeks ago. They will meet at Mid-Carolina Friday evening and Saturday for rehearsals be fore the Sunday concert. Guest conductor for the Pal metto Conference Band will be Dale Grabil, band director for the Sumter County schools. The first clinic and concert were held in Greenwood. Last year, Laurens was host to the conference band. Bill Bolton is band director at the host school this year. The Newberry High School band members shown above will participate. Gibbs, Kinard* and Beverly Kay Snipes, Clin ton, were married at Joanna on March 6. Carlton Allen Humphries and Gloria Gene Crapps of this city were married here March 8th. Luther Neil Garland, Balti more, Md. and Iris Nelson Tho mas, Whitmire, were married March 15 in Newberry. Carl Thomas Crumpton and Dicki Dawn Thomas of Whit mire were married there on March 10. BOWERS-ABRAMS ENGAGEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Bo wers of Prosperity announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Martha Julia, to Randel Sease Abrams, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Abrams, Sr. of Prosperity. The wedding is planned for Sunday June 15th at 4 p.m. in Wightman Methodist Church Prosperity. Both are graduates of Mid- Carolina High School. Miss Bowers will receive an A.B. degree in math in June from Newberry College. Mr. Abrams will receive an A.B. degree in chemistry from The Citadel in May, and will enter the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston in September. No formal invitations are be ing sent but friends and rela tives are invited to attend the cpremony. WITH U. S. COMBAT AIR FORCES, VIETNAM — Tech nical Sergeant Benny W. H ; n- ton, whose wife, Shirley, is the daughter of Mrs. Miller, Route 2, Kinards, is on duty at Bien Hoa AB, Vietnam. Sergeant Hinton, an aircraft maintenance technicial is as signed to a unit of the Pacific Air Forces. Before his arrival in Vietnam, he served at Volk Field, Wis.
