Hipp Jr., 22, whose parents live at 200 Glenn Street, Whitmire, S. €., completed a transportation of ficer basic course January 24 at the Army Transportation School, Ft. Eustis, Va. During the 8-week course, he was trained in various mil itary subjects and given a basic knowledge of the struc ture of transportation corps units and operations. Lt. Hipp received his com mission thru the Reserve Of ficers’ Training Corps program at Wofford College, Spartan burg, S. C., where he received his B.A. degree in 1968. His wife, Nancy, lives in Newport News, Va. FT. JACKSON, S. C.—Army Private Henry C. Suber, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Suber, Rt. 1, Newberry, S. C., completed a wheeled vehicle mechanic course January 31 at Ft. Jackson. During the 8-week course, he was trained to repair internal combustion engines and wheel ed vehicle chassis components. Instruction was given in the fundamentals of electrical and transmission systems. His wife, Kathy, lives on Rt. C. QUI NHON—At ceremonies held recently the 84th Engineer Battalion (Construction) turned over a highly sophisticated communications complex to the 41st Signal Battalion command ed by Lt. Col. Donald R. Lash er. The AUTOSEVOCOM, which is the abbrevation for Autom atic Secure Voice Communica tions, will provide telephone communications security to the users of the facility. At the ribbon cutting cere monies that opened the facility were Major Ralph B. Mattews, executive officer for the 41st Signal Battalion and Lt. Col. Robert J. Corley, Newberry, South Carolina., who presented the facility to the 41st and who commands the 84th Bat talion. WITH U. S. COMBAT FOR CES, Vietnam—Sergeant Ira T. Farmer of 2936 Piedmont St., Newberry, is on duty at Binh Thuy AB. Vietnam. Sgt. Farmer, son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Farmer, is as signed to a unit of the Pacific Air Forces. Before his arrival in Vietnam, he served at Am arillo AFB, Texas. The ser geant attended Newberry high school. His wife, Shelby, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Reid, Raleigh, W. Va. PLEIKU, VIETNAM—Army Private First Class David E. Wicker, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl P. W ’>ker, Route 2, Newberry, waL assigned as a supply clerk in the 510th En gineer Company near Pleiku, February 16. His wife, Carol, lives at 1306 Washington St. SAN ANTONIO — Airman George G. Floyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Floyd, Rt. 3, Newberry, has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. He has been assigned to Keesler AFB, Miss for training in communications el ectronic systems. Airman Floyd a graduate of Newberry high school, attended Clemson Uni versity. VIETNAM.—Marine Private First Class Eddie H. Eigner, grandson of Mrs. Mary Eigner of 318 Boundary St., Newberry is serving with the Third Bat talion, Ninth Marines, Third Marine Division on S. Vietnam. SHREVEPORT, La.—Joseph L. Singley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lang B. Singley, Route 3, has been graduated from the U. S. Air Force Senior Non commissioned Officer Academy at Barksdale AFB, La. Sgt. Singley, who received advanced military leadership and management training, is a missile equipment technician at Bakrsdale AFB, La. A graduate of Gallman High school, the sergeant attended the University of Maryland’s European Division while serv ing in Germany, and Louisiana Polytechnic Institute.
