Miss Mary Elizabeth Breh
mer, 81, died Sunday afternoon
at the Abbeville Nursing home
after a lingering illness.
Miss Brehmer was born in
this county, the daughter of
the late Harmon E. and Aug
usta Mae Brehmer. She was a
member of Trinity United
Methodist church.
She is survived by. one bro
ther, Joe W. Brehmer, Ninety
Six; two sisters, Mrs. J. Hugh
Chappell and Mrs. Eunice John
son, both of Kinards.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral
Home by Rev. James G. Mis-
hoe and Rev. T. G. Daum. In

Mn. Mary Helen McCord
Melvin, 33, wife of Lt Cmdr.
E. W. Melvin of Chevy Chase,
M<L, died Sunday afternoon at
a hospital in Bethesda, Md.
She was born in Jacksonville,
Florida., a daughter of James
L. and Ruth Clary McCord of
Newberry. She was a graduate
of Florida State Univenity.
Surviving are two sons, Mark
and Stephen Melvin of the
home; two daughters, Miss
Cynthia and Miss Jenifer Mel
vin of the home, and a sister,
Mn. F. V. Doe, of Springfield,
Virginia.
Burial was in Arlington Nat
ional cemetery.
The family requests that any
memorials be made to Thorn-
well orphanage.

a meeting of the Personnel
Committee was held in Green
wood recently to. make plans
to appoint an Executive Dir
ector for the association. The
position has been vacant since
February 1 when Mrs. M. M.
Teague of Laurens resigned to
move to State Park. Chairman
of the committee is Rev. J. C.
Rice of Ware Shoals; mem
bers include William A. Gard
ner of Greenwood, Rev. Frank
L. Roof of Greenwood, Dr.
Margaret B. Neville of Green
wood, and Rev. Neil E. Trues-
dell of Newberry, president
elect.
The committee will receive
applications for the position
through March and plans to
announce its choice of an ap
pointee prior to May 1. The
Area Six association includes
Abbeville, Edgefield, Laurens,
McCormick, Newberry and Sa
luda counties.
