Welbom gets
cash award
Postmaster Harry E. Moose
announced today that Distribu
tion Clerk Joe Welbom of the
local postoffice has been award
ed a cash award for a sug
gestion which improves the
handling of mail being dis
patched at the local office by
conserving employee time in
processing.
Every package of letters dis
patched from a postoffice has
attached to it a label or fac
ing slip before being placed in
locked pouches. The labels are
stored in a storage case case
and Mr. Welbom suggested a
stored in a storage case
in order to make the labels
more readily available to < the
clerk when they are needed.
Post Office Department Offi
cials concluded that the re
location of the storage case
would be able to save $235.00
yearly in man-power expense
and the cash award received by
Mr. Welbom was based on this
savings.
Mr. Welbom has been em
ployed at the local office since
October 1956 and is presently
serving as a distribution clerk
with his primary duties of pre
paring mail for dispatch and
distributing incoming mail.
“We are happy to have Mr.
Welbom join other employees
of the Newberry office who
have received cash awards for
money-saving suggestions,”
