We reiterate that the release of the men of The Pueblo should not be regarded as an end to the episode. There is still our ship, owned by the citizens of the United States and seized illegally by the communists, in the hands of the North Ko reans. This vessel should either be returned to us, or be destroy ed by our military forces. It should not, under any circum stance of timid reasoning, be allowed to remain in communist hands—and as a symbol of fur ther dishonor to the United States. Better late than never we should now do what we failed to do months ago. She was born in this county, daughter of the late E. S. and Elivera M. Franklin. Surviving are her husband, Murray Lee Watkins; three sons, Boyce M. and Murray Wise Watkins of Batesburg and Allen Ray Watkins of East Northport, N. Y.; three daugh ters, Mrs. Rhett Addy and Mrs. Glen C. Taylor of Leesville and Mrs. Earl E. Walton of Bates burg; two brothers, Evans Franklin of Newberry and Chriss Franklin of Prosperity; and a sister, Mrs. I. H. Wilson of Newberry. Funeral services were held Friday in First Baptist Church of Batesburg with interment following in Batesburg Ceme tery. J. W. Cook, 42, dies suddenly Jacob Wyman Cook, 42, died suddenly Sunday afternoon at his home near Prosperity.' Mr. Cook was born and rear ed at Prosperity and was the son of Jim Pet Cook, Pros perity and Mrs. Nannie Mae Miller, Clinton. He was a vet eran of World War II a mem ber of Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran church and was a retired em ployee of the S. C. National Guard. Besides his parents he is sur vived by his stepmother, Mrs. Eva Cook, Prosperity; two brothers, Harvey Cook, Joel B. Cook, both of Prosperity; one sister, Mrs. G. M. Simpkins, Nashville, Tenn. Funeral services were held from his church on Tuesday, conducted by Rev. J. S. Wes- singer. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Setzler dies at age 95 Mrs. Minnie Lee Setzler, 95, of Carlisle died Saturday at El len Sager Nursing home. Mrs. Setzler was born in Pomaria, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Boland. She was the widow of the late Wade Setzler. Surviving are a son, A. B. Settzler of Carlisle, and a sis ter, Mrs. Mamie Cromer of Pomaria. ' Funeral services were held Sunday in Carlisle Baptist church. Burial was in Whitmire cemetery. McCARY RITES Joseph C. McCary, 62, a bro ther of Mrs. Dorothy Williams, and J. O. McCary of Newberry, died last Wednesday. Funeral services were held Friday. JENKINS DIES SONS LIVE HERE Paul Anthony Jenkins, 45, of Greenville, died at the home of a sister near Salem Sunday. He was the father of Steve and Paul Jenkins of this city. Funeral services were con- EDWARD ELLIS’ SISTER DIES Mrs. Wilma K. Kirkland, 68, of Rock Hill, died Friday. She was a sister of Edward Ellis of this city. Funeral services were con ducted Sunday. NICHOLSON DIES; HAD KIN HERE A. Judson Nicholson, 67, of Saluda, died last Tuesday. Among his survivors is a sister, Mrs. Juliette N. Martin of Newberry. Funeral services were held Wednesday. F. W. Dickert service Sunday Furman Wise Dickert, 60, of Whitmire, died Friday at his home after a short illness. Mr. Dickert was born in this county, a son of the late John Henry and Leila Garrett Dickert. He was superintendent of the Meat Department at Whitten Village. I^e was a member of St. Timothy Luther an church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Steen Dickert, of Whitmire; one brother, New ton Dickert of Newberry; and five sisters, Mrs. Hermie Long shore of N. Augusta, Mrs. C. J. Shealy of Jenkinsville, Mrs. Ray Martin of Silverstreet and Mrs. Clara Bedenbaugh, and Mrs. William Pitts, both of Newberry. Funeral services were held Sunday from his church, con ducted by Rev. R. H. Riddle. Burial was in Whitmire cem etery. C. B. Cromer dies Tuesday Colie Brown Cromer, 61, of Rt. 1, Newberry, died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was a life-long resident of this county, son of the late Charlton T. and Margaret B. Cromer. He was a retired em ployee of J. P. Stevens Com pany and a member of ARP church of Newberry. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Vernelle Milstead Cromer; two daughters, Mrs. William May- din of Chapin and Mrs. Bobby Bowers of Lexington; four sis ters, Mrs. L. L. Henderson, Mrs. Novice Stone and Mrs. O. R. Higgins of Newberry, and Mrs Robert Clary of New El lington; a brother L. Ralph Cromer of Newberry. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Newberry ARP church with Rev. E. L. Bland conducting the service. Burial was in Rosemont cemetery. MEN IN SERVICE FAIRFIELD, CAL—Airman First Class Fred L. Cumalander son of Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Cumalander, Little Mountain, has been named Outstanding Airman in his unit at Travis AFB, California. Airman Cumalander, an ad ministrative specialist, was sel ected for his exemplary con duct and duty performance. He is a member of the Military Airlift Command. The Airman is a 1967 grad uate of Mid-Carolina High school. Miss Freeland weds Mr. Hicks Mr. and Mrs. Bayne Free land of Newberry have an nounced the marriage of their daughter, Baynetta Jean to David Paul Hicks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford B. Hicks of Elmhurst, 111. The ceremony was perform ed Jan. 3 by the Rev. Edwin I. Stevens at the South Church in Mt. Prospect, 111., where the Freelands made their home for many years. Maid of honor was the bride’s sister, Jill Freeland, of New berry. Douglas Hicks was his brother’s best man. The bride is a graduate of Beloit College. She taught in South T Dakota and recently has been in Belize, British Hondur- os, with the Peace Corps. Mr. Hicks, who also has been with the Peace Corps in Benize, is a graduate of Knox College. They are making their home in Northlake, 111.
