With the arrival of the new
year, motor vehicle inspection
in South Carolina moves from
jt%tA a firm requirement which
affects every vehicle owner in
the State.
Motor vehicle inspection,
which has as its ultimate goal
the saving of hundreds of lives
each year through elimination
of defective cars and trucks,
entered a new era January 1-
Gn that date the mandatory
provision of law became effect
ive and all vehicle owners in
the State most now maintain
their vehicles adequately to
pass an annual checkup.
The State Highway Depart
ment has arranged a schedule
for inspections in 1969 based
on the final digit of the vehicle
license plate. For in-
if a car has a license
plate numbered D-3461, the
final digit would be 1. This

inspection any time during the
first month, January. Plates
in 2 are due for inspec-
