The Newberry Sun, Newberry, S. C. Dec. 26th, 1968—PAGE 7—SEC. C
I am the new year. I
stretch before you three hund
red and sbcty-five days, unused,
without blemish, unspoiled,
each day a new leaf in your
Book of Life. On it you will
place your imprint.
If you write with firm steady
strokes the pages will be a
joy to look upon. If your
pen falters, if uncertainty and
doubt should mar the pages,
it will be a day, a year, to
remember with sorrow.
In each hour of my three
hundred and sixty five days
you have sixty minutes. It
remains for you to fill them
with sixty seconds of hope, en
deavor, love, honesty, patience,
and trust in God and your
fellow man.
I am here, but once past,
1 can never come again. How
will you use my precious min
utes?
CONGO ART. ..Titled
’’Awake”, this prize-winning oil

Advent star. It was selected

ian Literature.
The £>est way to understand
the feast of Christmas is in
terms of a gift. We spend
364 days in getting; Christmas
we spend in giving. The
greater part of the year, we
inflate our ego and insist on
our rights, on Christmas Day
we deflate our ego to bring hap
piness to others.
The reason we give on
Christmas Day is because we
too have received a gift—the
(iift of God to man, in which
He humbled Himself so com
pletely as to veil His Glory
and His Power. The Divine
Babe did not come into this
world as one would walk in
to a museum to see the work
of other artists. He came in
to the world as a painter in
to His own studio. His en
trance was into the world that
He had made.
We give gifts at Christmas
because we received a Gift. It
is the birthday cf God in the
form of man, in order that man
might be like unto God. When
ever we give gifts we tear off
the price tag so that there will
be no proportion between the
gift of the lover and the love
of a giver.
CARD IS A GIFT
The New Year’s greeting
card is really a form of gift;
this custom is credited to the
Chinese, who have sent such
cards for ever a thousand
years.
