Dec. 26th, 1968 State Bank to form holding corporation State Bank & Trust Company announced plans today to form a one-bank holding company, to be known as State Bancorp, Inc. The State Board of Bank Control recently approved the proposal whereby State Bank & Trust Company would be come the major subsidiary of State Bancorp, Inc. President W. W. Johnson stated that the shareholders of the bank would be requested to approve a plan of reorganization which would give present State Bank & State Bancorp shares in ex change for State Bank shares. State Bank & Trust Company presently operates a travel de partment and a general insur ance department. It is antici pated that each of these depart ments would become subsidiar ies of the holding company. Plans are also being formulated for a credit life subsidiary. Study is also being given to the establishment of additional fi nancial oriented subsidiary cor porations operating in the mort gage serviceing of real estate loans, data processing servicing and equipment leasing. State Bank & Trust Com pany is South Carolina’s larg est state chartered bank and its first state chartered bank to announce plans for a one- bank holding company. It joins 60 other banks across the na tion who have made similiar moves during 1968. Mr. John son stated that it would permit State Bank & Trust to diversi fy its operations and afford it the opportunity to serve its pre sent customers in broader finan cial activities as well as give the bank an opportunity to develop new markets in its present and other geographic areas. He ob served that this action was be lieved necessary in view of the competitive enviroments in which the bank operates. The corporate action of State Bank & Trust Company in re organization into one-bank hold ing company will follow the pro posed mergers with The South ern National Bank of Orange burg, Ridge Banking Company, Johnston, and North Augusta Banking Company, North Au gusta, and it is anticipated the reorganization will be complet ed in mid-year 1969. LOCAL YOUTH RETURNS FROM 4-H DAIRY CONFERENCE Henry Parr, Jr., 17, of New berry has returned from the 14th annual 4-H Dairy Conference held in Chicago, December 5-7. Highlighting the three-day conference were visits to the International Live Stock and Dairy Show, a horse show and rodeo. Other high points includ ed clinics in herd management, marketing and dairy careers. Delegates also attended ban quets, went sight-seeing and met Miss Elaine Marie Moore, 1968-69 American Dairy Prin cess. The local delegate whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Parr, operate a 1,200 acre farm, was selected to attend the con ference on the basis of indi vidual accomplishments in 4-H Dairy projects and leadership. He was accompanied by Fred Pardue, Assistant Dairy Exten sion Specialist. Some 200 young dairymen and their leaders from 25 states attended the 1968 conference. The event annually provides young people with recognition, inspiration and educational op portunities.. The delegates \njoyed free time allowed for shopping and touring Chicago’s museums. Other fun activities included group singing and recreation parties which concluded each day’s program. Henry’s trip to the 4-H Dairy Conference was provided by S. C. Jersey Cattle Club. WITH MKN IN THE SERVICES QUANTICO, VA., December 6—Marine Second Lieutenant Louis E. Brossy Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. Louis E. Brossy Jr., of 1113 Calhoun St., Newberry was graduated from Basic School at the Marine Corps Development and Education Command, Quan- tico, Va. During the 21 week course he studied tactics, weapon,s leadership techniques, first aid, map reading, personnel ad ministration, and communica tions. WICHITA FALLS, TEX.— Airman Ervin Lane, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Lane of Rt. 2, Pomaria, has been graduated from a U. S. Air Force tech nical school at Sheppard AFB, Texas. CHRISTMAS S[ At S ? The airman, a 1966 graduate of Gallman High School, New berry, attended South Carolina Area Trade School. VIETNAM, Dec. 5 — Marine Private First Class Carl O. Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl O. Taylor of 700 Pope St., Newberry is celebrating Christ mas in Vietnam this year as a member of the First Marine Division. Since 1966, First Division Marines have been serving in Vietnam during the Christmas holidays. Their mission then was the same as it is now: train the South Vietnamese armed forces, conduct opera tions against the communist guerilla infrastructure and help the people of South Vietnam build a strong, democratic na tion.
