Baker home on Main Street has taken on its usual Yule dress with green cedar and red velvet bows adorning the double front entrance. The sun casts its beams across the lower part of the picture. Holiday Orange Puffs Delightful 1 package hot-roll mix 1/4 cup butter, melted 3/4 cup sugar mixed candled fruits 2 teaspoons grated orange peel walnut or almond halves Prepare roll mix and let rise according io package direc tions. Form dough into 1-inch balls. Mix sugar and orange peel. Dip balls in butter, then roll in sugar mixture. Grease a ring mold, tube pan, or loaf pan. Loosely fill the pan half full with the balls. Let double. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 to 25 minutes or till done. Invert on rack. They Invited her to go with them to worship the new born King, but she would not leave until she had swept her house and baked her bread. So the Wise lien left without her tVhen her housework was finished, Befana packed a basket of toys for the Christ Child and set out after the Wise Men, but she never over took them. So every Christ mas she searches for the Christ Child with her basket of toys, leaving gifts for the children in each house. In Holland Children Put Gifts In Shoes Children in Holland fill their clean wooden shoes with hay and sugar and leave them on the hearth for St. Nicholas’s horse. The next morning they find the hay and sugar gone, and St. Nicholas has placed small gifts, toys, and pleasant surprises in the shoes. In some towns, the young men gather at dawn on Christ mas Day in the town square. Bearing a lighted star on a pole, they go from house to house waking sleepers with merry carols to welcome the Christ Child. Koch is academy guest Last Friday morning the chapel services at the Newberry Academy were conducted by the Rev. John H. Koch, Jr., pastor of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church. A member of his con gregation. Mariann Livingston, introduced him. Mr. Koch used as his sub ject the question which Jesus asked of his disciples, “What think you of Christ ? w With a number of novel demonstra tions in which the students took part he drove home the thought that the young people themselves in their everyday living would get the answer to the question. Every Friday morning chapel services are held. Once a month a minister is invited to conduct the service. On the other days the students themselves do this. The school now has the ad vantage of the use of songbooks provided through the generosity of Mr and Mrs. John Walker of Whitmire. t’s Christmas, and time to greet good friends ... time, too, to count our blessings.
