A Anissa Jones and Johnnie Whitaker, the attractive youngsters who star as Buffy and Jody on TV’s popu lar “Family Affair” are serving as the 1968 Christmas Seal Youth Ambassadors.” In this photo they’re point ing out that “Christmas Seals are a Family Affair.” “Peace and Friendship” is the theme represented in the 1968 Christmas Seal. A brown and white partridge golden pear, and green leaf of the pear tree are shown in the four unit design on blue and yellow background. Contributions to date in the Christmas Seal Campaign in Area Six amount to $25,265.46. The 1968 goal is for $36,000. Changes made in restaurant regulations “Anyone considering the pur chase of an existing restaurant or any type of food service business should contact the health department first,” ac cording to Dr. V. A. Long, Health Officer, Newberry Coun ty Health Department. “This notice is issued,” Dr. Long said, “due to widespread problems encountered by per sons purchasing food businesses without knowing that the health department has required the former owner to* upgrade the establishment.” The Newberry County Health Department has current inspec tion sheets indicating violations governing food service estab lishments which are invaluable to persons interested in exist ing businesses. It has been their ruling to require needed improvements and upgrading of establishments at the time of ownership transfer. Many restaurants thruout the State, which were in ex istence at the time of the adop tion of the 1964 Regulations, were not required to change the physical or structural con ditions of the kitchen; however, all new establishments were required to comply with these regulations before operation. It is the interpretation of the health department that the most opportune time to correct applicable physical violations is the time of ownership trans fer, otherwise existing estab lishments would not keep a- breast with new establishments. It is possible that the seller is under a health department compliance schedule to elimi nate existing health problems and wants to unload his prob lems on an innocent buyer, Dr. Long said.
