Through the efforts of many homes, churches, busi nesses, parking lots, Main Streets are transformed into glittering, gleaming reflections of the spirit of the Christmas season. The Nosegay Garden Club of Newberry wants Newberry to be at its best and asks help in keeping the “City of Friendly Folks” beautiful. Here’s how all can contribute to a cleaner Newberry and brighter Christ mas: 1. When walking place all litter in trash cans. It only takes a minute. 2. When riding use the lit ter bag in the car. An open auto window was not designed as a litter bag. 3. Use ash trays provided by most business houses for cigarette butts. If you operate a business colorful cigarette re ceptacles can keep premises cleaner and more attractive. The Nosegay Garden Club wishes for all a very Merry Christmas and asks “Don’t let Christmas glitter turn to lit ter.” U. M. DODGEN DIES; HAD KIN HERE U. M. Dodgen, 52, of Colum bia, died Friday night in Colum bia Hospital. Among his sur vivors are a sister, Mrs. Tommy Harmon and two brothers, Ir vin and Wilbur Dodgen, both of Newberry. Fred Wicker City Walter Williams City Sunday service for Mrs. Mills Mrs. Lucille McCarty Mills, 58, Route 1, Prosperity, died Friday morning at the Newber ry County Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. Mrs. Mills was bom in Sa luda County, the daughter of late Joe and Mary Ann Waites. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, Ernest T. Mills of Raleigh, N. C., Horace II. Mills of Fort Mill and Cecil L. Mills of Winns- boro; one brother, Joe Waites of Aiken; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Cobbler of Saluda and Mrs. Rilla Hasting of Ninety- Six and three grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church by Rev. Roy Davis. Interment was in the church cemetery. JASPER CHAPTER MEETS FRIDAY The regular meeting of the Jasper Chapter, DAR will be held on December 13 at the home of Miss Grace Summer at 4 p.m. Associate hostesses will he Miss Sudie Dennis, Miss Rose Hamm, Mrs. R. E. Hanna and Mrs. P M. Nichols. Mis Juanita Hitt and the Newbt y High School Chorus will piosent a program on Christmas music of the Revo lutionary period. Mrs. P. K.
