were faced with a heavy agenda
Tuesday night, hut completed
their business in a relatively
short time and adjourned at

Partain, who were re-elected to
four year terms on Council
last week, were given their oath
of office by City Attorney R.
Aubrey Harley.
Council approved annexation
into tin 1 city of an area hounded
by Dernll Avenue, Smith Road
(Perm Street and the present
city limits. All property owners
in the area had requested an
nexation and council had prev-
lou.-dy given approval. Since
this involved a change in the
ordinance, advert ist ment was
required. Last night’s action
was on the second and final
read i ng.

Riebe stated that no objections
to the improvement have been
received. Property owners will
nay a portion of the resurfacing

’ mqiate in the rent supplement
program and had recommended
council approval of a required

council.
A first reading wa.- given to
the P.tS!* business license. A
few changes were noted, prin
cipal of which was changing
date, on which the license must
he secured f i om March 1 -t to

A discussion was held of hil
ling procedures of the city and
council authorized the continued
lease of a billing machine now
being used until a committee
could further investigate other
lulling -ystems. Mayor Shealy
appointed ('ouneilmen Boiikni-'ht
.MeAlhany and Partain to this
committee.
Council held in abeyance,
pending further investigation,
a request for purchase of right
of way over city property by
Duke Power Company. This area
involved is near Bush River
pumping station.
Mayor Shealy notified coun
cil that approval had been ob
tained from the State Highway
Department for placing traffic
signals at the intersection of
Boundary and Drayton Streets.
Council authorized the city man
ager to obtain specificat ions
for the lights from the High
way iVpartment and to give
an estimated cost of the install
ation to council. Council also
roque-ted the Highway Depart
ment to give approval to traffic
signals at the intersection of
Milligan ami Caldwell and Har-
rim/ton ami Caldwell Streets.
