Dominick, admires the giant Japanese persimmons on the little tree in front of Dominick's Studio. The tree is less than five feet tall, and has over a dozen of these huge persimmons on it. They look like large ripe toma toes. Sudden attack is fatal to Walter Regnery Walter Regnery, 54, of 1801 Johnstone St., formerly vice president of Joanna Western Mills Company and executive officer of the Joanna Plant, died early Saturday morning at Newberry County Memorial hospital after a short critical illness. Mr. Regnery was born in Hinsdale, 111., the son of the late William H. and Frances T. Regnery. He was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1937. former president of Institute of Textile Technology in Char lottesville, Va. and before his retirement he was a consultant for the Southern Regional Re search Laboratory in New Or leans. At the time of his death he was chairman of the board of the Clinton-Newberry Natur al Gas Authority. Mr. Regnery was a pioneer in the blending of cotton by fine ness, using the micronaire and also was the inventor of the warp spindle adapter. He was the exnonent of eliminating heat in ginning and was one of the leading collaborators with the National Cotton Council, Gin- ners, Cotton Merchants and Manufacturers. In 1953, Mr. Regnery was honored by the Clinton Lions Club as the “Citizen Of The Year”. He was widely known for his many charities. He is survived by his wife. Funeral mass was conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark’s Catholic Church by Father Pe ter Berberich and Father Ger ald Ernst. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were R. Aubrey Harley, Joe M. Roberts, A. E. Morehead, Joseph Delan ey, Harry Bowers, Henry Par ker, Carl Franzen and J. B Hart. Honorary pallbearers were Howard F. Turner, Adam C. Dyskin, Walter Kolodij, and Nicholas Kramm, Miss Broaddus service held Miss Lenore Broaddus, 95, died Thursday night, at the New berry County Memorial Hospi tal, after a lingering illness. Miss Broaddus was born in Edgefield, the daughter of the late Rev. Luther and Sarah E. Bryan Broaddus. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, member of the Lucy B. Hunt Class, and organized the Nell Davis Class. She is survived by one niece, Mrs. Boyce A. (Carmeta) Drummond of Little Rock, Ark. Funeral services were con ducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. J. Anderson Bass. In terment was in Rosemont Cem etery. Active pallbearers were Mil- ton Wall, Gene Mathis, Pres ton McAlhany, Thomas E. Ep- ting, Bobby Underwood and W C. Park. Final rites for Mrs. Connelly Mrs. Ophelia Connelly, 86, died Tuesday night in a Col umbia hospital after a long illness. Born in Newberry Coun ty, She was the daughter of the late Bennett A. and Emma Ful mer Connelly. She was a mem ber of Zion Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, Roy Con nelly of Prosperity; three sis ters -,Mrs. Thompsia Summers, Mrs. Mary C. Long, both of Prosperity, Mrs. Alma Fellers of Newberry; four brothers, Joe B., M. P., Dove, all of Pros perity, Brooks Connelly of Batesburg; three grandchildren, Bruce Connelly of Prosperity, Larry Connelly of Williston, Mrs. Webster (Joyce) Grayson of Aiken; and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday from Zion Methodist Church with Rev. Raymond Brock conducting the service. Burial was in the church cem etery. Negro leader dies Thursday Funeral services for Ralph T. Williams, owner and opera tor of the T. A. Williams Un dertaking Company, were held Monday afternoon from Beth lehem Baptist church. Burial was in the family cemetery. Mr Williams was found dead in the basement of his resid- . Newberry County Coroner George R. Sum mer said that no inquest will be held. Williams was a native of this city, son of the late Joseph B. Williams and Mrs. Williams who survives. He had operated the undertaking company, es tablished by his grandfather, since the death of his father. Mr. Williams was active in community and civic affairs. For the past three years he had served as an appointed member of the Newberry County Board of Education, the first member of his race to serve in that po sition. He had announced as a Democratic candidate for elec tion to the Board in the Nov ember 5th general election. MRS. JONES’ FATHER DIES Roy Vaughn, 57, of Union father of Mrs. Winston Jones of Newberry, died last Tuesday. Funeral services were held Thursday at Westside Baptist church and burial followed in Union Memorial Gardens.
