Couple Wins Trip
Mr. and Mrs. Cousins, while
on their wedding trip to Palm
Beach were winners on the tel
evision show, Treasure Island,
which originates from the Col
onnades Hotel in Palm Beach.
They received an all-expense
paid trip to Jamaica, where
they will spend five days at the
Playboy Club Hotel. They will
have the use of a Hertz car
while there. In addition, they
will receive a refrigerator free
zer, a gas barbecue grill, a
year’s supply of bacon and
$325 in cash.
The show was taped to be
shown on ABC television net
work November 11, 1968.
Miss Kathleen Anne Darby,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Gregory James Darby, Jack
sonville, Fla. was married to
H. Edward Cousins, Homestead
Air Force Base, formerly of
Newberry, son of Mrs. Lewis
Arthur Davis, Jacksonville,
Fla. and Henry B. Cousins, of
Columbia.
The ceremony was performed
at noon on October 5, 1968 in
Sacred Heart Catholic church
by Rev. Edward Kirby.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a gown
of silk-faced satin with full
train. The princess bodice with
Nehru collar was exquisitely
embroidered with seed pearls
and sequins. Her shoulder-
length veil was attached to net
and satin pearls, trimmed with
seed pearls. She wore a gold
cross, gift of her bridegroom,
and carried a cascade bouquet
of roses and orchids.
Miss Mary Darby, sister of
the bride, was maid of honor.
She wore a long gown of royal
mirple featuring an empire
waistline. Her veil of laverdar
net was attached to a bow of
royal purple.
Bridesmaids were Miss Sally
Ostertag, Miss Margaret Wil
son. Miss Marsha Jordan, Mrs.
Michael Pearson, sister of the
bridegroom. Their dresses were
identical to that of the maid
of honor. Each carried sprays
of roses, asters and baby’s
breath with pink satin ribbon
streamers.
Miss Jennifer Darby, cousin
of the bride, was flower girl
and carried a basket of pink
rose petals.
Arthur Lee Hutson III nep
hew of the groom, was ring
bearer and carried the rings on
a white satin pillow.
The groom’s stepfather Lewis
Arthur Davis, was best man.
Ushers were Gregory James
Darby, brother of the bride,
Daniel Schert, Wayne Dansen,
Lawrence Stevenson and Peter
Lukey, Chicago, 111.
The reception luncheon was
given by the bride’s parents
at the Knights of Columbus
Hall following the ceremony.
After a wedding trip to Palm
Beach, the couple will reside in
Miami Beach, Fla.
Rerearsal Dinner
Following the rehearsal of
the wedding, Mr. and Mrs.
Lewis Davis entertained at a
buffet dinner at the Lakeshore
Women’s Club.
Guests were met by Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Hutson Jr., and
invited into the dining room.
The serving table was beau
tifully decorated with silver
candelabra holding purple tap
ers and centered with an ar
rangement of roses, carnations
and orchids.
Assisting in serving were
Mrs. Baker is
state chaplain
ofUDC
Mrs. Ralph B. Baker was in
stalled Chaplain of the S. C.
Division, UDC at the 72nd an
nual convention recently. Mrs.
Baker is now president of the
Drayton Rutherford Chapter.
Attending the convention with
Mrs. Baker was Mrs. Elmer
Shealy, who is vice president of
the officer’s club. She was in
charge of registration and as
sisted Mrs. Frank Leake, Jr.,
of Greenville, president of the
Officers Club at the luncheon
in Fort Sumter hotel, Charles
ton.
After lunch memorial service
was held at St. Michael’s
church honoring the 64 deceas
ed members of the Division
during the past year.
On October 11, a dedication
of the marker to Bishop Elli
son Capers was held in Wash
ington Park. Mayor Gaillard
made the address. A number of
descendants of Bishop Capers
were present. They were enter
tained at Market Hall at a re
ception after the ceremony.
On Saturday morning at the
business session, Mrs. Elmer
Shealy made a motion that
the convention go on record as
taking an active part in see
ing that South Carolina history
be put back in the schools of
the state.
Mrs. Archie Watson of Col
umbia spoke to this motion, a-
long with many school teachers
who were acquainted with the
new history book that is to re
place the present South Caro
lina history. She amended the
motion to provide that each
person present should write to
his respective Senator and Con
gressman. The motion with the
amendment was passed unani
mously.
At the Awards Luncheon on
October 12, the silver tray giv
en by Mrs. Carabel Youmans
in honor of her sister, was ag
ain awarded to the Calvin Cro-
zier Chapter of Newberry, for
the best historical work done in
schools.
The convention closed with in
stallation of officers.
