Sharp lines were drawn be
tween the World Council of
Churches and the International
Council of Christian Churches.
Both began in the same year,
1948, both are church organi
zations, both operate on the
world level, but that is the ex
tent of similarity.
Within the World Council of
Churches are Iron Curtain
churches. Their ecclesiastics are
numbered among the prominent

governing and policy making
body of the WCC, Patriarch of
Yugoslavia, German, according

Executive Committee member
of the ICCC and leader of the
Ukranian Evangelical Baptist
Convention—the Reverend Mr.
O. R. Harbuziuk—declared,
“ Despite Russian propaganda
to the contrary, religious per
secution is still a reality in the
Communist countries. A reso
lution on captive nations be
hind the Iron Curtain resolved,
“That the 7th World Congress
of the International Council
clearly identifies itself with all
persecuted Christians under
Communism and that this Con
gress supports the urgent ap-
neal cf the Ukranian Evange
lical Baptist Convention to the
entire Christian world to pray
and to work for the liberation
of all peoples from Communist
tyranny.”
Dr. David Hedegard, a res
ident of Uppsala, Sweden said,
“There were very few refer
ences made to the bible as the
Word of God in the recent
World Council of Churches
meeting. I more and more re
ceive the impression that the
WCC is a social institution.”
A resolution unanimously pass
ed by the 7th World Congress
of the ICCC protested “vehem
ently” against “such harmful
mistranslations” as the Re
vised Version and the New En
glish Bible and warned that
