Ark. Friday, September 6 at
4:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Aqui
nas Church, Fayetteville, Ark.
The double ring ceremony
was conducted by tht Reverend
Father V. E. Maquire.
Wedding music was furnish
ed by Miss Beatrice Pilapil, or
ganist and Dr. J. Roger Howe,
soloist. After the prelude Dr.
Howe sang “Because” and
“The Lord’s Prayer.” The Pro
cessional with Psalm XIX” by
Marcello and the Recessional
was “Trumpet Voluntary in D
Major” by Purcell.
Ushers were Thomas Connell,
brother of the groom, and Rob
ert Q. Raffield and William D.
Raffield 2nd., brothers of the
bride.
William Connell, brother oi
the groom, served as best man.
Matron of Honor was Mrs.
Loretta Villani, a close friend
of the bride during her stay at
the University of Arkansas.
She wore satin of champagne
color. Her headpiece was match
ing net with a satin bow. She
carried a cascade of pink roses.
The lovely bride, escorted and
given in marriage by her fa
ther, was exquisite in a gown
of scalloped Venetian lace over
white satin. Her shoulder-
length veil of Illusion was at
tached to a cap of lace petals
with pearl trim. Her bridal
bouquet was a cascade of ivory
roses.
The reception was given at
the Newman Center at the
church featuring a color scheme
of bridal white and green.
The lovely Bride’s Table was
centered with a four-tier wed
ding cake.
Mrs. Linda Connell . poured
coffee, Miss Beckye Thrash at
tended the Guest Book, and the
sister of the groom, Sister
Jeanne Mary, served the wed
ding cake.
A buffet was served with
each guest given a green net
favor filled with gold rice to
shower the bridal couple.
Following the reception, the
couple left for Dallas, Texas
where they will reside.

Smith Sr. opened the meeting
with prayer. Mrs. Van Oxner
read the minutes of the May
meeting in the absence of Sec
retary Mrs. I. M. Smith. They
were approved.
The announcement was made
that Miss Dean Rodelsperger
had represented the Garden
Club Council as Princess at the
Princess of Flowers show in
Greenwood.
President Mrs. Smith pres
ented Mrs. W. W. Hersey, pro
gram co-chairman who spoke
on “Flower Show Hints.” Nec
essary ingredients for the suc
cessful exhibitor were given as:
“Good sportsmanship, good hu
mor and read the flower show
schedule thoroughly. ”
Mrs. Hershey displayed an
arrangement titled “Competi
tion” consisting of a football
goal with arrangements at each
goal post of licoris.
Mrs. Derrill Smith, Park
chairman, reported increased
use of Nosegay Park.
Horticulture Chairman Mrs.
J. L. McCord suggested now
is the time to plant daffodils
and hyacinths. Tulips should be
planted later in cooler weather.
The tulip bulbs should be kept
in the refrigerator for several
weeks prior to planting.
Mrs. Ernest Layton was the
winner of the door prize.
Delicious refreshments were
served by the hostesses.

Richard Carter of Atlanta,
Ga. and Diane L. Herren, Col
umbia were married September
14 at Newberry.
William Harold Senn and
Jacqueline Elrod of Whitmire
were married there on Septem
ber 14.
Cecil Jennings Alewine of
Pomaria and Doris Irene Cum-
alander of Columbia were mar
ried at Little Mountain, Sep
tember 14.
The engagement of Miss Su
san Wilson Ashley and Mr. Ro
bert Eugene Bodie has been a-
nnounced by the bride-elect’s
mother.
Miss Ashley is the daughter
of Mrs. Frank Watt Ashley of
2628 Broad River Road, Colum
bia and the late Dr. Ashley.
The groom-elect is the son of
Mrs. Horace Fuquay Bodie, Sr.
of 1814 Nance St., Newberry,
and the late Mr. Bodie.
The wedding will take place
on November 30, 1968 at West
minister Presbyterian Church,
Columbia.
Miss Ashley is a 1964 grad
uate of Newberry High School.
She attended Newberry College.
Mr. Bodie is a 1956 graduate
of Newberry High School. Since
September 1966 he has been at
tending the University of South
Carolina. He is a senior, major
ing in industrial psychology,
and will graduate in June 1969.
He served two years in the
United States Marine Corps,
and since 1958 has been in the
motor truck freight business.
He is employed part time for
R. C. Motor Lines of Columbia
as an office worker while at
tending the University of South
Carolina.
The Ashleys are former res
idents of Newberry, where the
late Dr. Ashley was head of the
History and Political Science
department of Newberry Col
lege. Mrs. Ashley is now em
ployed as teached in the Colum
bia public schools.
