C., Thursday Sept. 5, 1968 Miss Doena Olivia Dawkins became the bride of Mr. Da vid Wilson Bowers, both of Prosperity, on Sunday, August 25 at 4 o’clock in the Grace Lutheran church, Prosperity. Johrmy Dawkins and George Dawkins, brothers of the bride served as acolytes. Miss Bev erly Hawkins presented a pro gram of wedding music before the ceremony and accompanied Mrs. J. J. (Billy) McSwain, who sang, “Entreat Me Not to Leave Thee," and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Those serving as ushers were Tommy Dawkins, brother of the bride; Lt. Andy Bowers, Col umbus) and Monte Bowers, brothers of the bridegroom; Ray Hipp, Spartanburg; Chas. Agee, Charleston; and Russell Bedenbaugh, cousin of the bridegroom. Father of the bridegroom. Mr. Jacob Andrew Bowers, was best man. Miss Frances Ann Spotts, Winthrop, was maid of honor. She wore aqua chiffon over lime yellow crepe forming the long cage dress fashioned with a shallow yoke, sleeveless, and a high stand-away collar. Her matching headpiece was a crownless tiered bonnet. She carried a bouquet of aqua tip ped carnations. Bridesmaids were Miss Judy Rawls, Pomaria; Miss Ginny Mills; Miss Peggy Stoudemay- er. Peak; Mrs. Vicki Lominick, cousin of the bride, Newberry. M iss Betsy Bowers, sister of the bridegroom, was a junior bridesmaid. All were dressed in identical fashion to the maid of honor. Miss Trudy McCuthceon, cou sin of the bride, was flower- girl. She too was dressed in similar style to the maid of honor. Master Clay Fellers, cousin of the bridegroom was ring- bearer. He was attired in a white coat and dark knee pants. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Daw kins of Prosperity. She was an honor graduate of Mid-Carolina High school. She is now a ris ing sophomore at Newberry College. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Andrew •Bowers of Prosperity, graduate of Mid-Carolina High school, graduate of Spartanburg Junior College. There he was a Phi Theta Kappa member. He will enter Newberry College as a Junior this fall. The bride, escorted and giv Next, Mrs. John Earl Daw kins and Mrs. Billy George en tertained the bride with a fes tive shower. They gave the bride a lovely pitcher matching her chosen glassware. A clothes hamper and match ing wastebasket was given to the bride by Miss Linda Epting and Miss Ginny Mills at a shower in the Epting home. Mrs. Joy Fellers and Mrs. Alice Faye Bedenbaugh honor ed the bride with a shower. A delicious salad plate was served. Among the gifts re ceived, the bride was given an electric can opener by the hos tesses. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Leaphart Jr. entertained the couple with a buffet dinner party, Wednes day, August 7 at their home. The couple was presented a set of serving pieces in their stain less steel pattern. Last, Mrs. Elvira Hawkins and her daughter, Beverly, en tertained the bride with a shower in their home. Delicious refreshments were served and the bride was given a tea cart. Rehearsal Party After the rehearsal on Satur-. day evening, Mr. and Mrs. Ly on Fellers, Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Dominick, and Mrs. Claude Powell entertained the couple and their guests at Zion rec reation building. en in marriage by her father, wore an empire gown of alen- con lace and silk organza. The bodice was formed of lace, fashioned with a high scalloped neckline, studded with pearls and rhinestones. The A-line skirt was accented with an ap plique of lace and the lace ap plique was repeated in the full chapel train. The fingertip veil of imported illusion was attach ed to the forehead headpiece of satin petals accented with pearls and crystals. She car ried a cascade of white roses on a white Bible. Her only ac cessory was a diamond pendant given to her by the bridegroom. Mother of the bride wore a blue sheath dress with a high standaway collar studded with beads and sequins. Mother of the groom wore a green lace dress adorned with rhinestone buttons. Both wore white or chid corsages. Grandmother of the bride, Mrs. Bernece Adams McCrack en and Mrs. John W. Dawkins and Miss Pet Bowers, aunt of the bridegroom all wore cor sages of white carnations. The reception followed im mediately after the ceremony in the parish building. Mr. and Mrs. Wink Dawkins greeted the guests; Miss San dra Word kept the register; Miss Lunelle Ruff, Miss Cyn thia Ruff, Miss Linda Epting, Mrs. Dolly McCutcheon, and Mrs. Agner Wood helped with the reception and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hawkins said the good byes. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Daw kins, Ralph Bowers and Rich ard Bowers displayed the gifts at the home of the bride’s par ents. * For the honeymoon trip the bride chose a yellow suit and black accessories. She lifted a white rose corsage from her bouquet. After the trip the couple will reside in Newberry. Bridal Luncheon Mrs. Wink Dawkins give the bride a lovely luncheon at the Newberry Inn. A delicious 3- course meal was served. After ward, the bride presented silver jewel boxes to her bridesmaids and a bracelet to her flowergirl. Pre-Nuptial Events Pre-nuptial parties given for the bride included a shower given by Miss Frances Ann Spotts, Mrs. Frances Spotts, and Mrs. Ruth Newman. A de licious salad plate was served and the bride received many gifts including lingerie from the hostesses. The second event was given by Mrs. Andy Bowers, Miss Betsy Bowers, and Miss Peggy Stoudemayer. Their hamburger supper at the lake was most enjoyable. The couple was giv en an elegant smoking stand. Mullenow will hold their reunion on Sunday, September 8th. Those planning to attend are asked to be at the residence of Rev. James L. Koon on Hwy. 76 (Greenville highway) at 11:00 a. m., to go from there to a park for dinner and the afternoon meeting. All are ask ed to bring picnic baskets and sweetened tea. John J. Long service held John J. Long, 40, died sud denly Wednesday at his home near Pomaria. He was bom and reared in this county, and was the son of Arthur and Mattie Ringer Long. Mr. Long was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a former member of the church council. He was employed at Mollohon Mills. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elvie Shealy Long, Pomaria; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ar thur Long, Pomaria; one son, Roy Long, Pomaria; three dau ghters, Marilyn Louise Long Cathy Lucille Long, and Helen Marie Long, all of Pomaria; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Blair of Charlotte, N. C. and Mrs. Chas. Mayfield of Columbia. Funeral services were held Thursday from his church by Rev. Elford B. Roof and Rev. J. P. Evans. Burial was in the church cemetery. Marriages Phillip Carl Trefsgar and Eunice Sheryl Medlock, New berry, were married on August 17 in the county. Larry A. Coleman and Sher ry E. Fish, Whitmire, were married there on August 10. Emanuel E. Lassey III, of Charleston and Sandra Ann Marchant of Kinards were mar ried August 25 at Kinards. Cecil McLaurin Amick, Jr., and Mary Elizabeth Parris, of Spartanburg were married on August 29 at Newberry by Probate Judge Frank Ward. David W. Bowers and Deena O.
