James Alvin Kinard, 66,
prominent businessman, farmer
and civic leader, died suddenly
Friday morning at his place of
business in Pomaria.
Mr. Kinard was born in
Pomaria, a son of the late Jas.
T. and Maggie Glymph Kinard.
He attended Pomaria schools
and Newberry College. Mr.
Kinard was one of the first
pulpwood dealers in this area
and at the time of his death
was engaged in the pulpwood
business, general mercantile
business for 40 years in Po
maria and was operating the

Mr. Kinard was a member
of St. Pauls’ Lutheran church.
He was also a Mason, being a
member of Lodge No. 271 o f
Little Mountain, a former mem
ber of the Newberry County
Board of Education, a member
of the Newberry County Farm
Bureau, a former trustee of
Pomaria School district, and a
member of the S. C. Pulpwood
Dealers Association.
Mr. Kinard was a former
magistrate of the Pomaria
District of Newberry having
served several terms in this
capacity. He also was an ac
tive member of the S. C. Gin-
ner’s Association and was the
president of Mid-Carolina In
vestment Club, a charter mem
ber of the Mid-Carolina Coun
try Club and a member of the
Pomaria Ruritan Club.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Ibbie Shedd Kinard; one
brother, T. G. Kinard of Clo
ver; three sisters, Mrs. H. W.
Hentz and Mrs. H. W. Lomi-
nick, both of Pomaria, and
Mrs. Roy E. Hewey of Spar
tanburg; a niece, whom he rear
ed, Mrs. Gurnie Stuck of Po
maria.
Funeral services were held
Sunday from his church, con
ducted by Rev. Harry Crouch
and Rev. Elford Roof. Burial
was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lillian Snipes Callaham
of Anderson died at her home
early Monday morning. She was
the mother of Ollie Moye of
this city.
Funeral services were con
ducted Wednesday at Beaver
Dam Baptist Church near Fair
Play. Burial was in Forest
Lawn Memorial Park.
LOCAL MAN’S
FATHER DIES
James Robert Brasington, 75,
of Lockhart died at a hospital
Monday morning. He was the
father of J. R. Brasington, Jr.
of Newberry.
Funeral services were con
ducted Wednesday afternoon at
Lockhart Methodist Church.
Burial was in Union Memorial
Gardens.

Rep. Folk’s
mother dies
Mrs. Pauline Wells Folk, 58,
mother of Newberry County
Rep D. P. Folk II, died sud
denly Wednesday at her home
in Denmark.
Surviving in addition to her
son and her husband, William
R. Folk of Denmark, is another
son, Christian S. Folk of New
berry.
Funeral services were con
ducted Friday afternoon in
Denmark.

lied forces operating in the
I Corps area of S. Vietnam.
