Eagle Scout
Scout Jimmy Weir, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weir, Jr., a
member of Troop 66, was pre
sented his Eagle badge by
Troop Committee Chairman,
John F. Clarkson at the last
meeting of the Newberry Lions
Club which sponsors the troop.
Jimmy became a Scout in
May 1965 and has made an
outstanding record, being aw
arded Eagle rank after 2 years
and 10 months. He has served
as Assistant Patrol Leader of
the Lion Patrol and as Troop
Quartermaster. In June, 1968
he was elected to the Order of
the Arrow, National Camping
Fraternity.

Mrs. Shealy, 80
Mrs. Alice Fulmer Shealy,
80, widow of Henry L. Shealy,
died at her home Saturday af
ternoon after a lingering ill
ness.
Mrs. Shealy was born in
Lexington county, a daughter
of the late David C. and Cath
erine Shealy Fulmer. She was
a member of the Lutheran
Church of The Redeemer.
She is survived by one son,
J. C. Shealy of Newberry; two
daughters, Miss Ethel Shealy
and Miss Kate Shealy, both of
Newberry; one brother, Jacob
W. Fulmer of Newberry; one
sister, Mrs. B. L. Amick, Pros
perity.
Funeial services were held
Monday at her church by Dr.
Henry McCullough and burial
was in Newberry Memorial
Gardens.
Waters infant
rites Monday
Michael Waters, infant son
of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Waters
died Sunday morning at the
Newberry County Memorial
hospital.
Surviving are his parents,

Gerald M. Baker, Sr., 63, died
Saturday at the Newberry
County Memorial hospital after
a lingering illness.
He was born in Newberry
county, son of Mrs. Minnie R.
Baker and the late Henry P.
Baker. He was a member of
the ARP church.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Hilda Melton Baker; one
son, Gerald M. Baker Jr.; one
brother, Henry P. Baker, of
Columbus, Ohio; four sisters,
Mrs. Evelyn McKeithean, Mrs.
Add Hackney, both of, Largo,
Florida; Mrs. Ruth Anderson,
Memphis, Tenn and Mrs. Neil
McDermott, Tampa, Fla.

Mrs. Wheeler
dies in Macon
Mrs. Effie Parks Wheeler, 84
widow of John W. Wheeler,
died Sunday in a Macon, Ga.
hospital after a lingering ill
ness.
Mrs. Wheeler was born in
Edgefield county, daughter of
the late Thomas N. and Mary
Emma Quarles Parks. She was
a member of Wittenburg Luth-
eran Church in Leesville.
She is survived by one son,

Mrs. Bessie Lee Gibson Ep
ting, 71, wife of Wilbur L. Ep
ting, died Sunday morning in
the Columbia hospital after a
lingering illness.
Mrs. Epting was bom in
Prosperity, the daughter of the
late W. T. and Melissa Boozer
Gibson. She was a member of
Silverstreet Lutheran church.
Besides her husband, she is
jurvived by two sons, Wilbur
j. Epting of Cheatham, N. J.
and Harold Epting of Colum
bia; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy
Lindler of Heath Springs; one
brother, B. R. Gibson of Col
umbia.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday at his church, con
ducted by Rev. H. B. Watson
and Dr. Henry A. McCullough.
Burial was in Newberry Mem
orial Gardens.
