Federation of Music (Hubs, of

Newberry wins
beauty award
COLUMBIA. — Newberry,
Chester and Greenville counties
have been chosen second quar
ter winners of the “Keep South
Carolina Beautiful" awards
program.
April, May and June com
prise the second quarter in the
contest.
The contest places each coun
ty in one of throe categories
according to population. \\ in-
ners along with Greenville in
the ov*‘r-50,000 class are Flor
ence, second, and Richland hid
in'the JO,000 to 50,000 group
along with Chester are Union,
:2ml and Dillon 3rd.
Other winners, with Newber
ry in the undor-30,000 group
arc Colleton, 12nd and Barnwell
3rd.
Quarterly winners along with
all other entrants in the con
test are eligible for the Annual
Governor’s Beautification Tro-
phy, a Jd-inch silv.-r cup. aw
arded each year. In the past
only quarterly winners wvre
,-ligible for the cup. Quarterly

which tlmy keep permanently,
fur their beautification effort.-.
In citing Newberry, the
judges said that county’s beau
tification committee enlisted
the assistance of scouts, fire
men, garden clubs, Newberry
College and others in making
the county cleaner and more
beautiful.
