They are special mosquito-egg detecting dev ises being used by the South Carolina State Board of Health. Dr. V. A. Long, Newberry County Health Director, an nounced today that the City of Newberry has been selected to participate in 'the use of these little black jars. The function of the small black jar called an evitrap is to offer any female yellow fever mosquito that might be in the area an attractice place to lay her eggs. This she does on the small hard-board paddle immersed in water in the jar. These paddles are collected weekly and examined for the presence of mosquito eggs. If a representative of the South Carolina State Board of Health calls on residents, they are asked to assist him by per mitting him to place evitraps on their premises. They con tain only plain water and are harmless to children and pets. Vets advised to up-date beneficiaries Six out of 10 veterans may need to change the beneficiar ies listed on their government life insurance to make sure that the right person gets the money, Hugh H. Henderson, Contact Officer of the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Columbia, estimated today. The VA must pay the pro ceeds of the insurance policy to the last beneficiary desig nated by the veteran even tho it might be a divorced wife or wealthy parent. In far too many cases the status of the original benefic iary is changed by marriage, divorce, or death, and the vet eran neglects to make the change in his insurance, Hen derson said. In a recent sampling it was found that six out of 10 vet erans ‘probably need to update beneficiary information on their policies.
