Michael Reeves Harmon, son
of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Harmon,
was graduated on June 7 from
Palmer College, Columbia. He
received the degree of Associ
ate in Business with high hon
ors, after having completed the
requisite study in Higher Ac
counting.
Michael will enroll this fall
at the Baptist College of Char
leston, where he will complete
requirements for a Bachelor’s
degree in Accounting.
Urges law to
curb Court
CHARLOTTE—A Charlotti
television executive has urged
that President Johnson “place
the power and prestige of the
White House behind legislation
which will prompt the Sup
reme Court to begin consider
ing the victims of violence, in
stead of just those who advo
cate violence.”
Charles H. Crutchfield, Pres
ident of the Jefferson Standard
Broadcasting Company, wired
Senator Sam J. Ervin, Jr. ask
ing him to “have delivered
personally this telegram to our
President,” requesting Mr.
Johnson’s support of such leg
islation.
“This is the only solution
to the madness which has
gripped us,” said Crutchfield
in his telegram to Ei-vin. “It
should be obvious by now',”
.he said, “that the Court’s ex
periment in permissiveness is
entirely too costly, in terms of
human life, to be allowed to
continue.”
Crutchfield has been a fre
quent critic of Supreme Court
decisions w-hich he says “stren
gthen the rights of the accused,
at the expense of the innoc
ent.”
Crutchfield also said that the
President’s “sense of outrage
and grief is shared by all of
us who are ready to unite sol
idly behind him to put an end
to the madness which threat
ens to destroy us from wdth-

CLUB MEETING
Mrs. F. Scott Elliott, a mem
ber of the Newberry Woman’s
Club, attended the 70th con
vention of the S. C. Federation
of Women’s Clubs which was
held at the Wade Hampton ho
tel, Columbia, on April 30-May
1. She attended the breakfast
which honored department and
division chairmen.
Mrs. Elliott has served the
SCFWC since 1952 when she
initiated the Epsilon Sigma
Omicron Division. She was ap
pointed chairman of Library
Service for 1968-70.
Golden Age
Fellowship
The Golden Age Fellowship
met in the Social Hall of the
First Baptist church on Wed
nesday, April 24th. Twenty
members were present.
Mrs. Gordon Blackwell gave
a very fine devotional, choosing
as her readings the 23rd chap
ter of Job and the 21st chapter
of John. In her thoughts on
these verses she brought out
the fact that when we have
trouble and call on the Lord,
we do not wait for His answer,
but get impatient. Faith grows
stronger with waiting. Trials
test us. She closed with a very
appropriate prayer.
Mrs. Mildred Fulmer then
led us in a “Follow The Lead
er” game, after which she read
from a little book entitled
“Happiness Is You” by Rich
ard Brannon. This reading was
excellently done. It showed us
that happiness is not some
thing you strive for, but is a
by-product of living creatively
and helping others. All felt that
they would like to have a copy.
The ladies were then invited
to the hall, where there was a
beautifully decorated table long
enough for 20 guests. Here was
served a delicious dessert, a
tall, slender glass full of straw
berries and whipped cream.
As we rose from the table,
the group joined hands and
sang “Blest Be The Tie That
Binds.” The president, Mrs.
Hartley” thanked the hostesses
for their lovely entertainment.
