Medlock of Route 4, Newberry announce the engagement of their daughter, Eunice Cheryl, to Phillip Carl Trefsgar, son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Trefsgar of Newberry. The wedding is planned for August 17 at New Chapel Methodist church. Citadel cadet gets diploma CHARLESTON, June 1— Cadet Arthur Eugene More- head III, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Morehead, Jr., 1122 Pope street, was graduated from The Citadel, the Military Col lege of South Carolina, today in a colorful ceremony. He re ceived his diploma and a con gratulatory handshake from Gen. Hugh P. Harris, president of the military college. Morehead held an outstand ing record at The Citadel. He held the i ank of first lieuten ant within the Corps of Cadets and was on the Third battalion staff. Enrolled in the Army ROTC program he won the coveted designation of Distin guished Military Student. He was a member of the Newman Club (a Catholic religious or ganization), the Religious Council, the Round Table (an intellectual discussion group), the Football team, the Inter national Relations Club, the Collegiate Council of the United Nations, the Block “C” Club, and served as vice presi dent of the Class of ’68, secre tary of the South Carolina State Student Legislature, and a Cadet Chapel Usher. A Dean’s List student, he was elected by his fellow students to be a member of the Honor Committee, which is one of the highest honors to which a cadet can aspire. He was also elected by his classmates as the “Best All Around” member of the Senior Class. Morehead was the recipient of first place in a public speaking contest at The Citadel and won $100. His name was selected to be listed in “Who’s Who Among Stud ents in American Universities and Colleges,” one of the highest distinctions a student can receive. He was commiss ioned a second lieutenant in the U. S. Army. Morehead was awarded the AjB. degree and majored in political science. Marriages Harry DeLane Edwards of Clinton and Margaret Virginia Seymore of Whitmire w ere married May 26 at Joanna. Charles Richard Cody and Kathy Louise Kinard of Pros perity were married here on May 30. LOCAL GIRLS ON DEAN’S LIST Ninety-eight Columbia Col lege students were named to the Dean’s List at the conclu sion of second term. Among the girls were two from this county, Miss Cynthia Lake of Silverstreet and Miss Sarah L. Lake, Whitmire. New Addresses Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Hub bard have moved to 1711 Nance street. Mr. and Mrs. Roy D. Stutts, Jr. are now residing at 1000 Boundary street. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Smith Jr. have moved to 1300 Drayton street to make their home. -ELECT- WflLTER T. LAKE To The HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Experienced • Qualified Seminar for writers set Amateur and professional writers of the state are being given an opportunity to work for one week this summer with nationally known writers, crit ics and teachers. The seminar for South Carolina writers will be held at Newberry College the week of August 11-17. From manuscripts mailed before June 10 to Dr. Rhea Workman at Columbia College or to Dr. Frank Hoskins, Jr., at Newberry College, Confer ence Director Dr. Robert Drake will select South Carolina auth ors—native bom or resident— to attend the week-long confer ence and workshop, beginning August 11. The basis of selec tion will be literary excellence and promise. Authors selected will have all expenses paid with the exception of travel costs to Newberry. Manuscripts to be considered must be: original work, never before published, of 2,000 to 20,000 words; typed on one side of the paper and double spaced; submitted with stamp ed envelop. Work does not need to deal with strictly regional or historical themes to merit consideration. For further in formation, writers are aske to contact Mrs. Workman or Dr. Hoskins. SIMMONS COMPLETES BASIC TRAINING SAN ANTONIO — Airman Gordon T. Simmons, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julian H. Sim mons, of Whitmire, has com pleted basic training at Lack- land AFB, Texas. He has been assigned to the Air Force Technical Training Center at Chanute AFB, III., for spec ialized schooling as an air craft weapons systems special ist. Airman Simmons is a 1967 graduate of Clinton High school. Support and Elect THOMAS B. I am fully familiar with the office and the duties required in it’s operation. Through this office come the expenditures as provided by the County Supply Act. I have always endeavored to spend these funds wisely and to the greatest benefit of every tax payer in the county. During my campaign, I have made no promises to anyone. Especially, have I not made promises regarding road work and drive in facilities. And, in this connection I should like to make it emphatically clear that this work is provided by law to be administered only by the Supervisor, the commissioners having no jurisdiction whatsoever in this phase of their duties.
