Thomas M. Collins of Winns-
boro has joined the staff of
Newberry Mills, Inc. as Cotton
Classer. Prior to this he was
employed with the U. S. De
partment of Agriculture, Cot
ton Division, Columbia, as a
Cotton Examiner. He has also
been associated with Lowen-
stein Cotton and Storage Co.,
Anderson, U. S. Rubber Com
pany, Winnsboro, Liberty Life
Insurance Company, Winnsbo
ro, and the State Record Com
pany, Columbia.

Tommy is a sophomore at
Clemson University; their dau
ghter (Mary Jean) is married
to Johnnie E. Brigman, Jr.,
and they live in Tacoma, Wash
ington where her husband is
stationed with U. S, Air Force.
Mr. Collins served four and one
half years with U. S. Air Force
during World War II.
Tom and his wife, Mary, are
Baptists and active members.
He has been choir director,
teaches Sunday School and is
a soloist. At present they re
side in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Price dies
by own hand
Mrs. Rita H. Price, 34, wife
of James B. Price, died of a
gunshot wound Monday at 1:00
a.m. in the Newberry County
Memorial hospital.
Newberry county Coroner
George Summer said Mrs.
Price was found about 11:15
p.m. Sunday with a .38 calibre
pistol wound of the head.
No foul play was indicated
and an inquest will not be held,
the coroner said.
Mrs. Price was a native of
Newberry, daughter of Marvin
and Ovalene C. Humphries of
Joanna. She was manager of
Jim Dandy Film Service and
attended the Faith Lutheran
church.
Surviving also are a son,
Keith Tinsley of Augusta, Ga.;
a daughter, Miss Debbie Price
of the home; two brothers, Mike
Humphries of Charleston and
Edwin Humphries of Garland,
Texas; a sister, Mrs. Marlene
Lowe of Clinton; and her grand
mother, Mrs. JVlary Rowland of
Joanna.
Funeral services were con
ducted Tuesday at Whitaker
Funeral Home by Rev. William
Link and Rev. L. W. Mitchum
Jr. Burial was in Newberry
Memorial Gardens.
Frank C. Miller
dies Monday
Frank Cloma Miller, 61, of
2031 Adelaide St., died Monday
at the Newberry County Mem
orial hospital.
He was a native of Newberry
county, son of the late Eddie
C. Miller and Mrs. Emma Koon
Miller Stribble. He was employ
ed by Newberry Mills and was
a member and elder of Cannon
Creek ARP church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Thelma Sligh Miller, three sons
Eddie Cloma Miller Jr., New
berry, John H. Miller, Green
ville and Burnet R. Miller, Ai
ken; two daughters, Mrs. Em
ma B. Miller and Mrs. Wilson
Leitzey of Newberry; a bro
ther, Claude T. Miller of Little
Mountain; a step-brother Bryan
Stribble of Newberry and sev
eral step-sisters.
Funeral services were held
at his church Tuesday by Rev.
E. L. Bland. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
Chance to earn
High diploma
Registration for the Special
One-Week Seminar, June 9-15
at the S. C. Opportunity School
in West Columbia, will be held
on Sunday, June 9, in the Main
Building of the school, located
near the Columbia Airport.
Registration will begin at 9:00
A.M. and run until 1:00 p.m.
in the afternoon. This Semi
nar is particularly designed for
those interested in obtaining a
State High School certificate.
On Sunday afternoon, June
9, placement tests will be ad
ministered to all students and
classroom work will begin on
Monday, June 10
The S. C. State High School
Certificate Examination is sch
eduled for Saturday, June 15,
in Columbia. For those who
have taken the high school ex
amination before, and made
more than 160, this Seminar
would be of great help in pass
ing the test on the next try.
Those who made less than 160
are advised to attend the Sum
mer Session, June 16 thru July
12. Instruction will be inten
sive, rapid, and on a high level.
The cost of the Seminar is
only $20.00, which includes
room, board, instruction, books
and materials.

Jacob Rawls
dead at 33
Jacob Donald Rawls, 33, of
Columbia, died Friday from in
juries received in an automobile
accident on Broad River Road.
Funeral was held Sunday at
Suber Marshall Methodist
church.
Mr. Rawls was born in Po-
maria, son of McDonald Rawls.
He was parts manager at the
Jim Moore Cadillac Co.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs.
Martha Owens Rawls; a son,
Donald Rawls Jr.; his parents;
a sister, Mrs. Claude Aull of
Pomaria; and three brothers,
Bobby, Sammy and Tony Rawls,
all of Pomaria.
