WARD SPECIAL REFEREE CROMER AND LOUTHIAN, Attorneys for Plaintiff M213tc Construction continues at Bachman Chapel Groundbreaking for a Church Office Building at Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church, Prosperity, will take place on Palm Sunday, April 7, immediately following the 11 a.m. service. Dr. Kinard, Pres ident of the South Carolina Synod, will bring the sermon message and will participate in the ground-breaking ceremony. The congregation will assemble at the proper time in the ser vice at the side of the church with the Pastor, William H. Link, and Dr .Kinard. Visitors, guests, interested friends are also cordially invited to at tend. This historic event marks a- nother giant step in the life of this congregation. It has been less than 10 years since the first service, was held in the present beautiful new brick church building which was built and furnished largely by members themselves. Since then the church has been paid for and dedicated. Also since then the Bachman Chapel and St. Paul Lutheran congregations, which were together, have each become self-supporting. With this change came the need for a parsonage for each of these independent congregations and by the grace of God, a parson age was also built with the same interest that went into the building of the church. Ear ly in 1963, the Rev. William H. Link accepted the call to be come the first full-time pastor of Bachman Chapel. It has been his privilege and pleasure to participate in wiping out the debt on the parsonage, which has also now been paid for and dedicated, and to move with this active group into another needed area of building and improvements. In addition to the building of a Church Office Building, other improvements have been ap proved by the congregation, these include a sidewalk at the church and parsonage, painting the basement of the church, placing awnings over the back doors of the church, putting a gutter on the parsonage and a floor covering in the breeze- way. Officers of the Building and Improvement Program include: J. S. Nichols and J. C. Counts, co-chairmen; T. J. Kinard, Fin ancial Secretary; J. E. Kinard Sr., Treasurer; Harry Wicker, Homer Wicker, and Furman Wicker, Grading and Landscap ing; Leland Kibler and Henry Kibler, Electricians, and Otis Kinard, Malcolm Kibler and Luther Kibler, Plumbing. Academy pupils rate high in piano contest Miss Ann Hentz in the Junior Division and Misses Deborah Hentz and Cynthia Brown in the Elementary Division won superior rating in the South Carolina Music Educators Pia no Events at Winthrop College last week. These three young pianists are all students in the Newberry Academy. Cynthia is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Brown. Deborah and Ann’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. William S. Hentz. For a few minutes after the Friday morning chapel services President Kinard is giving the student body brief lessons on good manners. He told the young people that he hoped they would always be courte ous to others that they would reflect credit upon the Acad emy. The president reports that applications for next year’s en rolment are coming in well. The number is 20 per cent higher than at the same time last year. The Kindergarten and Pre-school registration in dicates a record attendance for the new session. New Addresses Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Drew have moved to 1721 Harper St. Mr. and Mrs. Don Alexander are now making their home at 2240 Springdale Drive in the house they recently bought.
