A. M. (Mac) Dominick is shown at the Charleston Inn,
Charleston, proudly holding his living color wedding
scene which was hung as one of the best pictures of the
year at the Professional Photographers Convention held
March 10-12. This picture was the highest rated wed
ding scene at the convention. It was taken by Mr. Domi
nick as only one of a group at a wedding last summer,
and was only enlarged for the contest.
Hipp in race for
Magistrate
Alvin G. Hipp announced on
Monday that he is seeking the
office of Newberry County
Magistrate District No. 2. This
office is being vacated by Mag
istrate Gene Shealy, who has
announced as a candidate for
Sheriff in the Democratic pri
mary. Mr. Hipp qualified to run
in the- magistrate race on Mon
day.
A resident of Newberry for
35 years, he is the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. George R.
Hipp ,and is married to the
former Ruth Caldwell. They
have two daughters, Mrs. Billy
Bowers of Aiken and Mrs. Wil
bert Brigham of Columbia. Mr.
Hipp is a salesman and oper
ates a small farm.
He attended O’Neal High
school in the county and is a
veteran of World W T ar II, hav
ing served three and a half
years, including 13 months
overseas. He is a member of
First Baptist church and the
Adelphian Sunday school class;
a member of American Legion
Post 24 and a Mason of Amity
Lodge No. 87.
Initiate to
Phi Kappa Phi
Spring initiates to Phi Kappa
Phi, national honor society for
seholast'c achievement, were
honored recently at a banquet
at Winthrop College. New
members of Book and Key, a
Winthrop organization to rec
ognize achievement in the lib
eral arts, were also honored.
Among the Phi Kappa Phi
initiates was Marcia Abrams,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Abrams of this city. Marcia
is a graduate of Newberry high
school and entered Winthrop in
August l'JG5, where she is
majoring in mathematics and
minoring in English.. She is
a Marshal, a House Counselor
in Phelps Hall and is a member
of Archimedians.
Among the Book and Key
officers honored was Miss Nora
Carolina Ratteree of this city,
president of Book and Key.
Tom Perry runs
for Magistrate
Thomas B (Tom) Perry, a
Newberry business man for the
past 15 years, is a candidate for
Newberry County Magistrate’s
office, pledging to offer “ser
vice with respect and honesty.”
Mr. Perry, a native of Salu
da county, is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. James H. Perry, who
live on Route 2, Newberry. He
came to Newberry at an early
age and attended the schools
of this city.
Mr. Perry is married to the
former Miss Ollie Morris, dau
ghter of J. V. (Bud) Morris of
Charles street. The Perrys have
five children, Gerald, a gradu
ate of Newberry College, man
ager for the W. T. Grant store
in Atlanta, Ga.; Bobby, gradu
ate of the University of S. C.,
a registered pharmacist in Lex
ington; James Vernon, a stu
dent at Greenwood Tech; Lucy
Ann, a nurses aid at the Mills
Clinic; and Danny, student at
Newberrv hieh.
Mr. Perry is a member of
Reformation Southern Method
ist Church in Prosperity where
he is a member of the Board
of Stewards and Board of Trus
tees.
Since 19G0, Mr. Perry has
operated Tom’s Open Air Mar
ket. Prior tothat, he operated
Perry’s Service Station.
Mr. Perry promises, if elect-
id magistrate, he would be
against the use of this political
office for personal gains, and
against attempted dictatorship
by any group.
“I will do my best to provide
the service and law enforcement
we need in this county for the
proper protection of our fam
ilies.” Mr. Perry said, ”1 have
served the people of this county
in my business in a sober, fair
and honest way, and will do
whatever is needed to uphold
laws that are justly passed in
our county.
“I respectfully request your
support, and if elected, I will
serve with dedication and dili
gence. ”

ter at the 72nd State Congress
DAR at Clemson March 14-15.
District I was hostess for this
meeting.
The Jasper Chapter won a
blue ribbon on its yearbook and
will rate a silver star on the
honor roll achievements.
The State Society DAR Con
gress for 1968-1969 will be
held in Columbia with the Jas
per Chapter as one of the hos
tess groups.
