Parrott named
fair manager
Pete Parrott has been ap
pointed Newberry-Saluda Fair
manager by the Fair commit
tee of the American Legion.
He replaces B. Edwin Wicker,
who resigned because of inter
ference with his work.
Parrott, originally from Sa
luda county is a veteran of
World War II with service in
Europe. He has been a mem
ber of American Legion Post
24 since his discharge from
service and has served the Post
twice as commander. He has
also served as 5th District
Commander, has been Sergeant
at Arms for a number of years,
on the building and grounds
and the Junior Legion baseball
committees, and served eight
years as State Chairman of
Junior Legion baseball.
A member of St. Phillips Lu
theran church, Mr. Parrott is
owner and operator of Pete’s
Grocery on Caldwell street.
He is married to the former
Miss Mary Shealy.
Local Baptists
to take part
in meeting
GREENWOOD.— Newberry
area Baptists will take part in
the Western Region Baptist
Training Union Convention at
South Main Street Baptist
church, Greenwood, March 22.
Registration begins at 4:15 p.
m. and the meeting will ad
journ at 9 p.m.
Leaders for the sessions will
be Shaylor Walters, associate
in the State Baptist Training
Union Department, and Mrs.
James A. Howard of Greer, an
approved worker. Local church
leaders will also assist.
The regional meeting will
include Junior and Intermed
iate Sword drills during the
afternoon and a speakers’
tournament at the night ses
sion. Both special and general
conferences will play a major
part in each session. These con
ferences will center around the
newest concepts and materials
in Training Union work.
Baptists from seven counties
will participate in the conven
tion which is one of ten such
meetings being held around the
state this month.
