its editor, A. McKay Brabham
Jr., stole the thunder from the
President’s “riot committee"
in placing the blame for riots
on “society" rather than on
the individuals involved.
The only difference is that
the President's committee was
concerning itself with tin- riots
of the past summer. i.ditui
Brabham was concerting: him
self with the riot at Oranjo'-
burg.
Following the teaching of
the sociologists, he finds fault
with everyone except the riot
ers, the arsonists, the snipers,
at Oran^ehur^. By inference he
blames the citizens of Oran^e-
bur^ for causing the riots tie-
cause they did not yive in to
every demand of the youthful
hoodlums at State College and
the outside agitator' who led
them on.
The entire student body of
State < Allege is not to blame.

Florida truck
driver killed
in wreck here

A Jt>-year-old Florida man
was killed when the truck he
was driving ran off S. C. 121
about three miles west of here
at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday and struck
several trees.
Coroner George R. Summer
said Albert Young Woodham of
Auburndale, Fla., was pro
nounced dead at the scene of
the accident.
A man identified as Monte
Sanford, ,"2, of Ft. Lauderdale,
Fla., who was asleep in the
truck cab at the time of the
accident, was reported in fair
condition at the Newberry
Hospital.
The coroner said the truck,
loaded with rolls of paper, was
traveling south on Highway 121.
The driver apparently lost con
trol at the intersection of S. C.
24 and 121 and the truck ran
off the highway about 150 feet,
knocking down several trees.
The call was demolished.
The truck, owned by tlm Clay
Hyder Trucking Corp. of Au
burndale, was traveling from
Canton, X. ('., to Auburndale.
The coroner said it was report
ed that the truck driver became
ill at Canton.
He .-aid an autopsy will bo
conducted and a decision on an
inquest will ho made after tie 1
autopsy results are made avail
able.

was stricken with an attack and
was rushed to Newberry Me
morial Hospital, where’ he was
pronounced dead on arrival.
Mr. Epps was born a the
Jolly Sinct section of Hie coun
ty, son of the late .). K. and
Jimmy Hunter Epps. He lived
m the Mt. Bethel eommunity
where he was a retired farmer
and dairyman.
Mr. Epps had a lifelong inter
est in the political affairs of his
county, and served eight years
on the Newberry Gounty Board
of Commissioners. He had serv
ed 12 years as a director of
Newberry Electric Cooperative.
He was member of Mayer Me
morial Lutheran Church.
