1968 MISS QUEEN OF HEARTS—Miss

bert C. Lake of Whitmire, was crowded
“Miss Queen of Hearts” last Saturday
night at the annual contest held at New
berry High School. Miss Lake is being
crowded by last year’s queen, Miss Brant-
lee Price. At left is Miss Deborah Kyzer,
first runner-up and at right, Miss Debbie
Westmoreland, second runner-up. The con

meet Feb. 20th
Th^ 41 directors of the Tub
erculosis and Health Associa
tion of Area Six will hold a
business meeting on Tuesday,
February 20, according to an
announcement by the president,
Richard W. Stowe of Green
wood. Mr. Stowe stated that
the directors will meet at 4
o’clock in the Greenwood .coun
ty Health Department.
Items slated for the meeting
include plans for the Annual
Meeting to be held in April, a
report of Christmas Seal Cam
paign receipts, and selection of
representatives to attend the
NTA Annual Meeting in Hous
ton, May 18-22.

Retired doctor
dies Sunday
Dr. Warren Edward Fulmer,
72, of Columbia, retired physi
cian, died Sunday morning at
his home after a long illness.
Dr. Fulmer was born in Pros
perity, son of William Walter
and Alice Epting Fulmer. He
was a graduate of Atlanta Col
lege of Physicians and Surg
eons, now Emory University,
and had practiced in Columbia
for more than 50 years.
Dr. Fulmer was a member of
St. Paul’s Lutheran church,
Columbia Medical Society, S. C.
Medical Association and Amer
ican Medical Association. He
was a veteran of World War 1,
U. S. Army with the rank of
First Lieutenant, a charter
member of Richland Post 6, a
Mason and a Shriner.
Surviving are his widow,
Mrs. Onie Fowler Fulmer; a
sister, Mrs. P. W. Hutchinson,
Laurens; and two brothers, B.
A., Columbia and 0. F. Fulmer
of Savannah, Ga.

Lee playlet
At the Newberry Academy
recently there was presented a
playlet built around General
Robert E. Lee. Under the dir
ection of their teacher, Miss
Sallie Lee Cromer, the pupils
of the fourth grade portrayed
events in the Confederate Gen
eral’s life and sang songs of
the South of that period. Mrs.
May T. Epting, teacher of music
served as pianist.
On another Friday morning,
Mrs. Dianne L. Bruner directed
her class, the fifth grade, in a
sketch centering about Stephen
Foster. The participants were
in appropriate costumes and
sang some of the familiar Fos
ter melodies.
Both performances were pre
ceded by devotional services
conducted by the students them
selves.

Miss Jean Altman was crowned Miss Jun
ior High Queen of Hearts and Terry Britt
was crowned King during a Valentine
Party at the Teen Club at the Youth Cen
ter last Friday night. Runners-up, named
Prince and Princess were from left. Miss
Joan Adams and Bart Cochcroft. Mr. Fred
Staton, right, principal of Junior High
crowned the King and King Britt placed
the crown on Miss Altman. The principals
were selected by class vote during the

Newberry county are requested
to meet at their regular voting
precincts Saturday afternoon,
February 24, 1968, at three
o’clock for the purpose of re
organization.
Each precinct is required to
elect a president, vice presid
ent, secretary, treasurer and an
executve committeeman, and
also elect delegates to the coun
ty convention which meets on
Monday, March 4, 1968, at 11
o’clock a.m. at the NEWBERRY
COMMUNITY HALL. Each
club is entitled to one delegate
for each 25 votes or majority
fraction thereof that were cast
in the first primary election
held in 1966.

Mrs. Bickley
died Friday
Mrs. Lela Amick Bickley, 88,
of Chapin, passed away last
Friday.
Mrs. Bickley was born in
Lexington county, a daughter
of the lat£ Elias and Mary B.
Amick.
Surviving are three daugh
ters, Mrs. Maude Schroder and
Mrs. Martha Bickley of New
berry and Mrs. Chloe Eleazer
of Chapin and a son, Gary, of
Little Mountain.
