As part of the observance of December, Anti-Litter month in the county, Owens-
Illinois made over 160 litter containers to be placed on all school buses. Among
those present when D. B. Brittain, O-I manager made the presentation were, from

Chapter has
Christmas tea
The beautiful home of the
Ralph B. Bakers was opened en
suite for the Christmas meeting
of Drayton Rutherford Chapter,
United Daughters of the Con
federacy.
The reciprocity meeting was
presented members and guests
as an Old Fashioned Christ
mas tea. The home was taste
fully decorated to carry out
this theme.
Members and guests entered
the drawing room where a huge
tree was decorated for their
pleasure. They then went to
the music room where they were
entertained at the organ by
Miss Elizabeth Ruff and at the
piano by Miss Mary Baker.
After social exchange, the
members and guests were in
vited to the dining room where
they enjoyed a truly old fash
ioned tea. The recipes for
many foodds had been passed
down from their families
through generations. One left
with a feeling of having stepped
into the past and the wonder
ful Christmas spirit of long ago.

P. I. Kelly, Sr.
rites Tuesday
Philip T. Kelly, Sr., 85, of
Charleston, died Monday in Col
umbia after a lingering illness.
Mr. Kelly waa born in
Charleston and was the retired
owner of the Quality Grocery
Store. He was a member of
St. Andrews Lutheran Church,
a member of the Lutheran
Church Men, a former Ward
Alderman and Mason.
His wife, Mrs. Katherine
O'Connor Kelly, died several
years ago.
He is survived by two sons,
Philip T. Kelly, Jr. of New
berry and Sheriff William F.
Kelly of Charleston; and four
grandchildren.
Funeral services were con
ducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at
the Stuhr Furieral Home,
Charleston. Interment was in
Bethlehem Cemetery, Charles
ton.
