CHRISTMAS CLASSIC . . . Shown above is the miracle
scene from Gian Carlo Menotti’s beloved Christmas opera,
"Am a hi and the Night Visitors." The opera has been presented
17 times on network television during the Christmas holiday
seasons.
MARK YOUR OWN SNOW
An economical way to
dress up your holiday dec
orations is to make home
made "snow”.
Put lots of soap chips or
flakes in a little water. Beat
lightly with a wire mesh
spoon, long enough to get a
thick foam. Smear on nee
dles and stems of Evergreen
branches, allow to dry, and
you have a winter snow ef
fect.
Silver Decorations
Silvered berries, leaves, seed
pods and sprays of ivy may be
made by pouring a small
amount of aluminum paint into
a deep container almost filled
with water. The paint floats
on the water. Dip the mater
ial to be silvered into the
water and draw it out slowly.
Hold it over the container until
it has stopped dripping. Then
hang it in a dry place for 24
hours. Aluminum paint for
metal surfaces works best.
OUTDOOR THEME
If you want your outdoor deco
rations to sparkle, begin with
a plan. Keep your plan simple,
accenting and decorating a single
feature — a tree, chimney, or
door. Use your imagination to
camouflage floodlights. Pine
bough, tiny figures, or snow
banked behind the lights hide
them well. Don’t overdecorate
with lights strung haphazardly
from tree to tree, or gate to gate
No Dangerous Items
There are some especially
hazardous holiday trim. Did
you know that even metallic
icicles are dangerous to chil
dren? If ingested they can cause
serious lead poisoning. Also,
snow sprays contain poisonous
propellants if inhaled.
