Miss Crooks, 89
service Sunday
Miss Hattie Belle Crooks, 89,
died Friday night at the New
berry County Memorial Hospi
tal after a lingering illness.
Miss Crooks was born in
Newberry County, the daughter
of the late John B. and Amanda
G. Lyons Crooks. Until her re
tirement, she was clerk with
the Southern Railway Company
in Spartanburg. She was a
member of the Lutheran
Church of the Redeemer.
Funeral services were con-
ucted at 2:30 p. m. Sunday
at the Whitaker Funeral Home
by Dr. H. A. McCullough and
Dr. E. B. Keisler. Interment
was in Rosemont Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Max-
ie Stone, William Swittenberg,
Paul Whitaker, Ed Cannon,
John Swittenberg, Carl Setzler
and D. P. Folk.
J. P. Hyler’s
sister dies
Mrs. Mamie Hyler Black, 62,
of Saluda died Wednesday at a
Columbia hospital. She was a
sister of J. P. Hyler of this
city. Funeral services were
conducted Friday 1 at Sardis
Baptist church. Interment fol
lowed in Cleve Matthews cem
etery
Kneece rites
were Saturday

Harold Kneece, 39, of Archer,
Florida, died Thursday at the
home of his sister, Mrs. Colie
Cocrkell in Saluda. Among his
survivors is a brother, Clar
ence Kneece, of this city.
Funeral services were held
Saturday at Good Hope Luth
eran church, with burial in the
church cemetery.
Mrs. Anderson’s
mother dies
Mrs. Mary Wells Baker, 71,
of Route 1, Clinton, mother of
Mrs. Henry Anderson of this
city, died Monday in a Clinton
hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services were con
ducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. at
Calvary Baptist Church by Rev
J.. W. Spillers and Rev. Thomas
A. Miller, III.

The check - sized income re
port cards, enclosed with the
November pension checks mail
ed December 1, must be filled
out and returned to the VA by
January 31 or payment of the
pension will be stopped. The
law requires that payment be
stopped if income is not re
ported.
The forms are again simpli
fied this year, and designed for
faster processing in automatic
accounting machines.
In addition to requesting that
the cards NOT be folded, torn
or mutilated, the VA this year
is also asking pension recipi
ents to return them in the
window envelops that are en
closed w T ith their November
check and income question
naires mailed December 1. The
VA asks that the questionnaire
card be put in the return en
velop so that the preprinted
VA address shows thru the
envelop window.
