the annual convention of Soil and Water Conservation
District Supervisors held in Greenville this week. From

The Supervisors represent all land owners in the individ
ual counties and serve as the governing board for nat
ural resource conservation and development. The Soil
Conservation Service provides the Districts with full
time technical assistance.
G. A. FELLOWSHIP
MEETS AT CENTRAL
The Golden Age Fellowship
met November 15 at the Social
Hall of Central Methodist
church. The meeting opened
with prayer by the president,
Mrs. F. G Hartley.
A Thanksgiving program was
presented by some students of
the Newberry Academy. 8th
grade students under the lead
ership of Mrs. Robert Beach
acted out the first meeting of
the Pilgrims when they con
sidered having a Thanksgiving.
They were in costume of the
Pilgrims except two, who were
in native Indian dress. These
were Indian friends of the col
onists, Massasoit and Squanto.
Each spoke in turn of their
blessings, liberty, freedom of
worship, and the good health
of those remaining. The ad
dress of Governor Bradford
summed up the desire of all
for a Thanksgiving and he in
vited the two Indians to share
in festivities.
The fourth grade children
under Miss Sallie Lee Cromer,
with Mrs. Mae Epting at the
piano, sang three songs appro
priate to the occasion. It was
all beautifully done and the
ladies of the Golden Age thor
oughly enjoyed it.
Mrs. R. B. Carroll gave the
devotions, her theme being the
6th and 7th verses of Psalm 95,
a Psalm of Thanksgiving

ember: Mrs. L. W Bedenbaugh,
Mrs. Pope Buford Sr., Mrs. D.
J. Williams and the late Mrs.
P. E. Way.
The next meeting will be at
Lutheran Church of The Re
deemer on December 20.
The meeting closed with the
singing of “ Blest Be The Tie
That Binds” after which the
Wesleyan Service Guild of the
church served delicious re
freshments.
Burley Williams Taylor and
Shirley Ann Lowman of Kin-
ards, were married on Novem
ber 28th at Whitmire.
Gallman gains
Accreditation
Word has betn received here
that Gallman High School has
been accepted as an accredited
high school into the Southern
Association of College^ and
Schools.
The announcement was made
during the meeting of the As
sociation now being held in
Dallas, Texas.
Newberry High School has
been accredited for a number
of years. For the past few
years, the County Board of
Educaiton has placed emphasis
on providing necessary funds to
bring Gallman to the accredita
tion stage.
It is anticipated that work
will continue in all un-accred-
ited schools in the county to
bring them in line with accred
itation standards.
