(Sunphoto) Quail season now is open COLUMBIA. — Thanksgiving day may mean turkey to most Americans but to the South Carolina quail hunter it is a day of fulfillment, dreamed of since last winter when the sea son closed. The quail season opened on Thanksgiving morning over the entire state, except in most of the counties of Zone Six where it got off to an early start Monday. Along with quail, the season is opened on all domestic game by Thanksgiving, this including wild turkey, rabbits, squirrels, coons, possums and various oth er animals and birds. The second half of the split dove season will open Decem ber 4 and run thru January 13 with shooters hoping for bet ter luck than in the first half, which was generally poor. The duck and goose seasons, are also open, although more cold weather is neeeded to bring down the big flocks. The snipe and woodcock season opened November 27 and 28 respectively. S. C. Highway Patrol school is scheduled January 28, 1968, is the date for another 50-man contingent of highway patrol candidates to begin a 11-week training course at the Area Trade School near Columbia, the State Highway Department an nounced. All applicants must fill out a regular form which is avail able at any patrol office, and submit it as soon as possible. It is customary for successful applicants to be notified at least two weeks prior to the start of school so they may give suitable notice to their present employers. Therefore, applications received after New Year’s Day cannot be processed in time. Young men between 21 and 30, inclusive, weighing at least 160 pounds are eligible for Patrol service. High school graduation or possession of a state certificate is required. Candiates will be paid $75 a week during the 11-week school. Upon graduation and commissioning, weekly pay is $90. Periodic increases, as merited, may be expected. Col. P. F. Thompson is commander of the S. C. Patrol. Lt. Leo F. McSwain is officer- in-charge of patrol school. Present numerical strength of the patrol is 503. The Highway Patrol is as signed the primary function of enforcing the traffic laws on South Carolina highways. At Clemson Poultry Day CLEMSON —Four students from Newberry High school were among the more than 100 junior and senior high school students who participated in Poultry Industry Career Day at Clemson University. The day of activities was sponsored by the Clemson de partment of poultry science and the S. C. Poultry Improve ment Association to inform high school students about ca reer opportunities in the poul try industry. The program included labor atory tours, and discussions with Clemson faculty about ad mission requirements, jobs and salaries, and curriculum. Newberry High school stu dents attending the program were: Robert Brooks, George C. Floyd, Bill Irons, and James Neel. ANTI-UTTER ORDINANCE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, COUNTY OF NEWBERRY. An Ordinance Prohibiting Littering of Private and Public Property, Highways, Streets, Parks, Etc. BE IT ORDAINED, By the Mayor and Council- men of Newberry, in Council duly assembled; Section 1—It shall be unlawful for any person to dump, throw upon, deposit or leave trash, refuse, garbage, cans, bottles, wrecked cars, or any other litter on any property belonging to another without permission from the owner thereof or on or along or upon any public street, parking lot, sidewalk, park, or other public property within the City of Newberry. Section 2—Any violation of this Section shall be punishable by a fine of not more than One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars or imprisonment of not more than Thirty (30) days; and in addition, any person violating this Section may be required toremove any such trash, refuse, garbage, or other deliterious matter dumped or left on the streets or any other property.
