The Legislative-Governor’s Agriculture Study Committee will conduct public meetings for all South Carolina farmers from November 27 to December 6. Clemson University, the S. C. Farm Bureau Federation and the S. C Grange will assist the committee with the meetings. “This is the first statewide canvass of the farmers them selves”, said Rep. David W. Harwell of Florence, Chairman of the Agriculture Study Com mittee. “We want the South Carolina farmer to know the State is vitally interested in him and is diligently working to help strengthen the farm economy.” Harwell explained that the study committee has been hard at work two years trying to improve the farm economy. “We now want to meet with the farmers to see what pro grams are helping them the most and what problems are causing them the most con cern.” A meeting will be held Dec ember 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the Court House in Newberry. Persons attending the meet ings will have ample opportun ities to discuss problem areas and offer suggestions for sol utions. Participating in the meeting will be farmers, rep- sentatives of State and Federal agencies and the Agriculture Study Committee. Last rites for Mrs. Cothran Mrs. Ruth Rebekah Cothran, 61, widow of Walker Cothran, died Saturday at the Newberry County Memorial hospital af ter a lingering illness. Mrs. Cothran was born in this county, the daughter of the late M. C. and Elizabeth Whitmire Motes. She was a retired employee of the Oak land Mills. She is survived by five bro thers, J. W. Motes and W. A. Motes, both of Newberry, J. J. Motes and Simon Motes, both of Joanna, and L. C. Motes of Cayce; and two sis ters, Mrs. Elizabeth Holt and Mrs. Louise Pace, both of Columbia. Funeral services were held Monday at Whitaker Funeral Home by Rev. W. M. Crocker and Rev. David Gregory. Bur ial was in Rosemont cemetery, Clinton. J. R. Long dies at hospital J. Robert Long, 84, died Sunday at the Newberry Coun ty Memorial hospital after a short illness. Mr. Long was born in this county, a son of the late Lu ther M. and Annie Schumpert Long. He was a farmer, and was a member of the Lutheran Church of The Redeemer. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Folk Long; two sons, L. Kenneth Long of this city and J. Claude* Long, of Columbia; and four grand children; one brother, L. Edgar Long; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie L. Sease and Mrs. Mary L. Shealy, both of Newberry. He was first married to Mary Elizabeth Abrams who passed away many years ago. To this union, one son, Kenneth Long, was born. Funeral services were held at his church Tuesday with Rev. H. A. McCullough, con-, ducting. Interment was in the Newberry Memorial Gardens. County native dies in Minn. Mrs. Laura S. Dannenberg, wife of Dr. Albert Dannenberg, died Nov. 18, 1967. She was a native of Newber ry County and a daughter of Thomas I .Setzler and Beulah Cannon Setzler and a grand daughter of Dr. J. D. Cannon. She graduated from New berry College and taught for many years here until she married and moved to Benm- idji, Minn. She is survived by one bro ther, Gus Setzler, who lives near Prosperity. He is the only living member of her immed iate family.
