Many Newberry County businesses and industries were honored last Thursday evening during an Industrial Appreciation banquet sponsored by the South Carolina National Bank of Newberry. Jack Raffield, senior officer and vice president of the Newberry office, pre sented certificates to representatives of the manufact uring, lumbering, news media and orchid growing in dustries. The certificates read: “In recognition of sig nificant contributions to the industrial development and growth of Newberry County and the State of South Car olina.” Pictured left to right are Noland P. Shuler Jr., executive vice president, Central Region, SCN; John H. Lumpkin, president of SCN, speaker; John F. Clarkson and Mr. Raffield. Mr. Clarkson was presented a certifi cate for his untiring efforts in helping to build a stronger Newberry County and as Newberry County’s member on the State Development Board. ' Is listed in Who's Who Murrie Alice Shealy of New berry, is one of 18 seniors at Newberry College nominated for inclusion in the 1967 edition of “Who’s Who among Students at American Universities and Col leges.” Listing in the national directory is based on college leadership and future potential, as well as on academic accomp lishment Miss Shealy has been elected a class officer several times and is an editor on the staff of the 1968 “Newberrian,” the college yearbook. She is active in the Student Christian Association and the Lutheran Student Asso ciation. She is majoring in English. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. E. 0. Shealy. The purpose of the Fair is to encourage children to read and also to improve the school’s library. Books will be available for children and ad ults, and will make excellent Christmas Gifts, according to Dr. James C. Kinard, Academy president. Proceeds from the sale will be used to buy books for the Academy library. Everyone is invited Sunday afternoon, November 12 at 3:00 p.m. when Mt. Bethel Southern Methodist church will be dedicated.
