Extra hour of sleep Sunday Have you been looking for that hour’s sleep which you lost back in April when we went on Daylight Saving Time? You’ll get it back Oct. 29, when this area, along with most of the nation returns to Stand ard Time. This will bring cries of joy from some, and moans of despair from others. Time pieces will be set back one hour—officially, it would be at 2 a.m. But from prac tical standpoint, you probably will want to do it before you go to bed, unless you are a night owl likely to be out past 2 o’clock. Whenever you make the change, you move your clock back one hour. That is, if you should make the change at 11 p.m., move the clock back to 10 p.m. By doing it before you go to bed you have “gained” an hour’s sleep, and you’ve made the time change so you won’t be off schedule for church* or for Monday’s work. Daylight Saving was intro duced during World War I to save precious fuel for lighting. Many people liked the extra hour of daylight for recreation after work, and the idea caught on. This year is the first that virtually the whole country has been on it. And if you think DST is something new, Ben Franklin, then minister to France, in 1784 wrote an article advising the people of Paris to adopt DST in order to save millions of dollars each year on candles. So light bulbs or candles, whichever you save, remem ber: your timepiece goes back one hour on October 29. Wedding Invitations at The Sun Office. halt a football WON’T DO Or half a bandage.
