Mr. John Weaver, organist of
The Lutheran Church of The
Holy Trinity, New York City,
will be at Newberry College on
Thursday, October 12 to assist
in the dedication of the new
organ in the A. G. D. Wiles
Chapel recently completed.
He will conduct a lecture-
demonstration on the registra
tion and interpretation of or
gan music beginning at 2:00
p.m. in the chapel.
The service of dedication of
the new organ, conducted by
Rev. Harry Weber, college
chaplain, will begin at 8:00 p.
m. and will be followed by an
organ recital by Mr. Weaver.
A reception honoring Mr.
Weaver will be held in Smelt-
zer Hall after the recital. The
public is invited to these ev
ents.
In observance of Fire Prevention Week, fire safety
demonstrations were held in schools throughout the
county this week. At Mid-Carolina, a demonstration was
conducted Tuesday morning by Captain Bill Prophet of
the Charlotte Fire Department, assistant director of the
fire prevention bureau. From left are Hubert Beden-
baugh, principal at Mid-Carolina; Capt. Prophet. Jim
Jamison, chief of the Charlotte Fire Department investi
gation bureau, arson squad; and Chief Jas Wicker, chief
of the Prosperity Fire Department. Chief Jamison was
guest speaker at a joint meeting of the Newberry Ex
change Club and the volunteer fire department, held
Tuesday night at the City Fire Department.
New officers of the Newberry High School Band Par
ents Association are quickly inducted into a portion of
their duties, as they help man the Band’s lunch booth at
the Newberry County P'air. From left are Charles Sligh,

Final rites for
T. M. Padgett
Talmadge M. (Slim) Padgett,
68, died Wednesday afternoon
at the Newberry County Me
morial Hospital after several
years of ill health.
Mr. Padgett was born and
reared in Saluda county and
was the son of the late Henry
and Carrie Jones Padgett. He
had made his home in New
berry for almost fifty years and
was a retired employee of the
Mollohon Plant of Kendall
Mills. He was a member of
Sardis Baptist church.
Mr. Padgett is survived by
his wife, Mrs. Sadie Proctor
Padgett, Newberry; two daugh
ters; Mrs. James (Dessa Rae)
Wesson, Newberry; Mrs. Albert
(Dorothy) Adams, Sumter;
three sisters; Mrs. Irvin Cor
ley. Newberry; Mrs. Marcella
Dolman, Holmes, Penn; Mrs.
Bertha Hughes, Saluda, one
brother, Price Padgett, Monet-
ta; four grandchildren and orie
great grandchild.
Funeral services were held
Friday afternoon at 4:30 from
the McSwain Funeral Home
with Rev. Funderburke and
Rev. Clinton conducting the
service. Interment followed in
Newberry Memorial Gardens.
