Society for Crippled Children and Adults, announced today that the annual meeting of the Chapter will be held at the home of vice chairman, Mrs. C. M. Smith on Wednes day, September 13 at 3:30 p.m. “The annual meeting,” Mr. Moose said “is for the purpose of receiving reports, electing officers for the coming year, and transacting any other bu siness that might come be fore the Chapter ” The Chairman stated that a complete report of the year’s work will be made and he is sued an invitation to any resi dent of Newberry County who is interested in the work of the Society to attend this meet ing and stated they will be most welcome. “Persons desir ing to participate in the work of the Society are especially in vited,” the Chairman said. “Any organization which has an interest in the work should send a representative to this annual meeting. Service Clubs and other Civic organizations are welcome to join 'the local Chapter. There are no dues,” the Chairman stated. Gregory, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Oree Gregory, Michaels. She was a lofe-long resident of Edgefield and Saluda coun ties, daughter of John and Lu cinda Free Harling. Surviving are a ,daughter Mrs. J. A. Gregory, Michaels, and two granddaughters, Mrs. F. G. Carpenter of Augusta, Ga. and Mrs. Hugh Dominick of Newberry. Service were held Thursday at Good Hope Baptist church. Mrs. Brooks, 87, service Monday Mrs. Linna Glenn Brooks, 87, widow of H. Reeder Brooks, died Saturday at the Columbia hospital after a lingering ill ness. Mrs. Brooks was born in this county. She was a retired school teacher and a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian church and the Womens Mission Circle No. 3. She is survived by one son, William R. Brooks of Newber ry and two grandsons. Funeral services were held Monday at Whitaker Funeral Home by Dr. Neil Truesdell and Rev. Harry Grout. Burial was in Rosemont cemetery. Mrs. Hawkins rites Saturday Mrs. Alice Kunkle Hawkins, 74, wife of G. Wilbur Hawkins of Stoney Hill Road, Prosperity, died Friday morning at her home. A native of this county, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Amelia Buz- hardt Kunkle. She was a mem ber of St. Lukes Lutheran church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hawkins is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Clinton Branham and Miss June Haw kins, both of Columbia; Mrs. W. E. Martin of Prosperity; Mrs. Marvin Hamm and Mrs. Cecil Williams, both of New berry; a son, Thomas R. Haw kins of Prosperity; a sister, Mrs. Lena Chapman of Pros perity; a brother, Tom Kunkle of Prosperity. Funeral services were held Saturday from her church with Rev. J. Hilton Roof and Dr. Thomas Suber conducting 'the church service. Active pallbearers were Ish- mael Chapman, Voight Kunkle, John Kunkle, Henry Kunkle, Rufus Chapman, Ellis Kunkle. Miss Sease dies at age 91 Miss Alma Sease, 91, died Thursday afternoon at the Lowman home after a lingering illness. Miss Sease was born in Lex ington county, the daughter of the late John Jacobs and Ida Bundrick Sease. She was a member of St. James Lutheran church. She is survived by one bro ther, D. B. Sease of Newberry; two nephews, Burton Sease of Newberry and E. C. Sease of Jackson, Tenn; two nieces, Miss Elizabeth Sease of New berry and Mrs. Cyril Halfacre of Newberry. Funeral services were held Saturday at Whitaker Funeral Home by Rev. Paul Hatch and Rev. J. Kenneth Webb. Burial was in Rosemont cemetery. Active pallbearers were Kenneth Long, Charles Wise, Jerry Ruff, James R. Bishop, Jr., John B. Shealy and Paul H. Long. Joe M. Spotts funeral held Joe Miller Spotts, 56, hus band of Frances H. Spotts, died Wednesday at VA hospi tal in Dublin, Ga. Mr. Spotts had been at the hospital for several years. A native of Ab beville, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Spotts. He was a veteran of World war II and a member of Wightman Methodist church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Fran ces Ann Spotts of the home; a son, Larry M. Spotts, USMC, serving in Africa; five sisters, Mrs. Annie Chappell and Mrs. Ellen Clamp, both of Newber ry, Mrs. Pearl Teeny of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Miss Mary Spotts of Jackson Heights, N. Y., and Mrs. Frances Long shore of Alexandria, Va.; three brothers, Fuller Spotts, New berry, Ben Spotts of Hyatts- ville, Mr., and George Spotts. Funeral services were held Saturday from McSwain Fun eral Home with Rev. Raymond W. Brock conducting the ser vice. Burial followed in Pros perity cemetery. Mrs. Ida Kunkle succumbs at 89 Mrs. Ida George Kunkle, 89, died Friday morning at the Newberry County Memorial hospital after a lingering ill ness. Mrs. Kunkle was born in this county, the daughter of the late Preston George and Corleen Epting George. She was a member of Colony Luth eran church, Life Member of the Lutheran Church Women, and a member of the Esther. She is survived by three sons, Willie Lee Kunkle of Ninety Six, Winfred and Preston Kun kle, both of Newberry; five daughters, Mrs. Ollie Icard of Hudson, N. C., Mrs. Louise Smith, Mrs. Georgia M. Smith Wilson and Mrs. Mattie Kneece all of Newberry, Mrs. Blanche Swancey of West Columbia; one brother, Will George, of Prosperity. Funeral services were held Suiday at her church by Rev. Virgil Long and Rev. James Bruce. Interment was in New berry Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were her grandsons, John Smoth, James Kneece, Everett Swancey, Jim- by Swancey, Wm. Clamp Sr., 1314 Kate street, Newberry grad uated August 29 as an aviator from the Army Aviation school here and was appointed a war rant officer. During the 20- week course, he was taught various fire techniques and tac tical maneuvers for helicopters supporting ground troops in Vietnam. He also received in struction in helicopter main tenance and survival tech niques. YOKOSUKA, JAPAN—Aug ust 21—HospitalmanDennis M. Trimble, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Tribble of Fill more, Utah, and husband of the former Miss Roxie D. Thomas of Newberry is in Yo kosuka, Japan serving at the U. S. Naval Hospital. The hospital’s mission is to provide general clinical hospit alization services for active duty armed forces personnel and other authorized persons. It also cooperates with military and civil authorities in matters pertaining to health, sanitation and local disasters. SHERMAN, TEXAS.—Mas ter Sgt. John H. Garrett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest T. Garrett, Route 1 Prosperity, has received the U. S. Air Force Medal at AFB, Texas. Sgt. Garrett was decorated for meritorious service as a materiel supervisor at Takhli Royal Thai AFB, Thialand. He was cited for outstanding skill knowledge and leadership He is now at Perrin with the Air Defense Command which pro tects the U. S. against enemy air attack. Permits showed construction value of $7470. Edgar Wright's brother dies L. G. Wright, 49, of Buffalo, died at a Union hospital Satur day after a sudden illness. He was a brother of Edgar Wright of Newberry. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Buffalo Methodist church. Marriages Bruce Leroy Sandburg of Tallahassee, Fla. and Doris Segar Dominick of Newberry were married on August 26 at Newberry. Troy Williams, Newberry and Paula Gayle Griffin of Pom- aria were married at Pomaria on August 27. Herman Lloyd McGuage of Columbia and Willie Evelyn Perdue of Newberry were mar ried on September 2 at New berry. James C. Hannah of Clinton and Jeanne L. Sims of Cross Anchor were married Septem ber 1 at Clinton.
