Drivers asked to be careful near schools With the opening 1 of kinder gartens and schools across S. C. this week, all automobile dri vers are reminded by the State Highway Department to be extra vigilant in the days to come. Kiddies unaccustomed to traveling to and from school by themselves will be on their own shortly and it falls to the motorist to watch out for them as they may forget to exercise caution themselves. South Carolina law calls for every driver to stop and wait for luading and unloading buses which are stopped in the road or street. No such school bus may be passed by a motorist. Failure to heed this law will bring a stiff penalty. Youngsters walking to city schools may decide to dart into the street without warn ing. Bicycle riders are unpre dictable. They may ride into your path. By driving at a reduced rate of speed in school areas and by keeping an extra sharp look out for trouble, traffic accid ents involving children may be kept to a minimum. Particularly between 8 to 9 and 2 to 4 should motor vehicle drivers use extra care near school areas. In many cities, low speed limits of 20 or 25 miles an hour are imposed in such areas. A moment lost could mean a life saved, the department says. Social Security Information Most medicare claims are settled promptly and accurate ly, Miss Martha F. Pressly, social security district manager in Greenwood said today. These are failure to show the date a medical service was received, the place of treatment, and a description of the illness or injury which was treated. It is also important that the re ceipt or the claim form show the type of treatment given. Other errors also add to the delay in some cases, Miss Press ly said. These include failure to show the medicare claim number, failure to sign the claim form, and failure tosub- mit properly itemized receipted bills.
