Academy meet
Friday night
The Board of Directors of the
Wwberry Academy is calling
i meeting- of all the patrons
and their friends for Friday
night, August 4th, at 8:30 p.m.
Plans will be presented for the
next session and it is hoped
that there will be a very large
attendance. The directors were
enthused over the report pre
sented by President Kinard at
the regular meeting Tuesday
night. The enrollment will be
higher than that of last year
and Dr. Kinard stated that al
ready it looked as if they
would have to turn down some
applications becouse the limit
of registration was being
reached. He said, “We are go
ing to limit the size of each
grade to 25. We propose to
operate a school where quality
education is possible only by
personal attention in small
classes."
The meeting will he held in
the Academy auditorium.

Only one candidate had shown
official interest in the city
Democratic Primary at noon
Wednesday. Claude W. Partain
has signed to be a candidate
for city council. The filing dead
line is at noon Saturday next,
according to Pete Parrott.
To be nominated are six
councilmen and a mayor. Three
members of council will serve
one year, and three councilmen
and the mayor will serve three
years under a new city council
setup of staggered terms.

276 tracts
Foresters of the S. C. State
Commission of Forestry, New
berry District, gave professi
onal assistance on 276 tracts
of woodland, containing 40,742
acres in the Newberry District
during the 1966-67 fiscal year
ending June 30.
A written forest management
plan was furnished on each
tract following in-the-woods in
spections where needs and rec
ommendations were discussed
with each landowner, District
Forester Legare Duke said.
Timber was marked for har
vest on 87 tracts in prepara
tion for marketing. Almost 3
million hoard feet of sawtimber
and 4,926 cords of pulpwood
were marked. Additional mar
keting assistance included pro
viding quantity and volume re
ports on timber marked, lists
of prospective buyers, letters
.for advertising timber for sale
and sample timber sale con
tracts.
Newberry District Office for
esters also checked more than
200 forestry practices for which
cost-sharing was requested
thru Agricultural Conservation
Program. In addition to this,
numerous insect and disease
checks were made.
Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Clamp
