Wiles, president of the college. During the last three years he has been engaged in grad uate study at the University of Illinois. He received a doc tor of philosophy degree in Spanish from this university in June of this year. He holds the A:B. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of South Carolina. From 1958 to 1964 he served as assistant pro fessor f Spanish at Newberry College. In the summer of 1964 he studied at the University of Valladolid, Spain, under a Ful- bright scholarship. His doctoral dissertation Wenceslao Fernandez Florez y su novela (The Novels of Wen ceslao Fernandez Florez) is considered by many to be the basic work on this contempor ary Spanish satirist. It is sched uled for publication in Spain during the coming year. He is married to the former Miss Ellen Harper of Timmons- ville. They have four sons, Rog er, Stephen, Ronald and Mich ael. Wafs Wanted By Air Force The vital role of women in the Air Force (WAF) is having increased influence in Defense Department planning, local Air Force recruiting sergeant Frank F. Fernley said. During this fiscal year the ranks of the WAF will increase by more than 1,000. “It is this increase,” the re cruiter said, “that makes the need for qualified women more important than ever before.” Sgt. Fernley emphasized that the Air Force is looking for “quality, not quantity” in fu ture WAF. ‘To the Air Force,” he said, “a young women ap plies for a job, and if she is se lected, she can consider herself far above average. Sgt.
