A beau tiful house surrounded by an unkept yard is not a very pret ty view. I can help my parents put out shubbery and flowers. I have learned a very import ant thing is to be sure you are putting the right plants in the i proper places. This is only the beginning of the work. I can help trim and prune shrubs that require it. With proper super vision I can keep our lawn cut. We must be sure not to litter our yards with trash or toys. I can try to remember to put my playthings where they be long and place any papers I see in the trash containers. We still have a few “litter bugs” on the highways so we should keep a watch for litter thrown in our driveways or even on the edge of our yard. Just re member, you don’t have to hire someone to landscape your home to beautify it. There is a lot of material you can read on beautification. Nine months out of each year I spend a large part of my time at school. Our schools have janitors but still we should play a big part in keep ing our buildings and grounds beautiful. The biggest part we can do here is to keep them as neat as possible. I can be care less and throw paper on the playgrounds. Then I am setting a bad example for children smaller than I, or maybe this gives my friends the same idea. Instead I will try to pick up litter that has been accident ly dropped and place it in trash containers. By doing this I would be helping to keep qury schools clean. If I should see someone else scattering litter, then maybe in some way I could explain how this hurts the beauty of our school. Many projects are being car ried out for keeping our com munity beautiful. In some small way we can all take part. Now look around you and see if there are a few yards in your community that need work done in them. Maybe there are a few people that are neglect ing their work, but there are other reasons also. Some little homes have within an elderly couple that is not able to do yard work. It is my duty as a citizen of my community to of fer my help to these people. Just to trim hedges, clean flow er beds, or cut grass would be a big help to older ones, to my community, and to me. Mr. and Mrs. James F. Lake are now residing at 2008 Mc Dowell St. Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Dennis are making their new home at 1202 Speer St. Wessinger is promoted New York, N. Y.—T. E. Wes singer Jr. has been appointed merchandise-manufacturing co ordinator for Erwin Mills div ision of Burlington Industries, Inc. Mr. Wessinger has been div ision engineer for the Burling ton Automotive Company at Wilson, N. C., since 19G0. He will transfer from Wilson to New York. Mr. Wessinger join ed Burlington in 1953 as an engineer at the Cramerton, N. C. plant of the Company’s Ga- ley & Lord division. Born in Newberry, S. C. he is a graduate of Clemson Uni versity where he received his Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. Camp Lejeune, N. C. (Fhtnc) Marine Corporal Hugh S. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter D.
