M iss Margaret Ruth Wherrj
of Batesburp and Mi’. Joseph
Hobor Lon^ of Newberry were
married at 4 p. m. Sunday,
May 28, in the First Baptist
Church, Newberry.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Harper Ross
Wherry of Batesburj;, former
residents of Newberry, and the
bridegroom is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Luther Hubert Long
of Newberry.
Rev. J. Anderson Bass, Jr.,
pastor, officiated at the double
ring ceremony which took place
in a traditional nuptial setting.
Glowing tapers in brass tree
candelabra and arrangements
of gladioli and daisies in brass
floor basket were used to form
the setting.
Miss Carol Armfield of New
berry, organist, and Mr. Bruce
Galloway of Clinton, soloist,
furnished the wedding music.
Mr. Galloway sang “Because”
before the ceremony and “Seal
Us O Holy Spirit” as the couple
knelt for the benediction. Mr.
Galloway was also the soloist
at the wedding of the bride’s
parents twenty years ago.
Acolytes were Gerald and
Deraid Long of Spartanburg
brothers of the bridegroom.
They also served as ushers
along with Larry Long, cousin
of the bridegroom, and Eddie
Mills, both of Newberry. The
bridegroom’s father served as
best man.
Miss Mary Ruth Armfield of
Newberry was maid of honor.
Mrs. Joseph Fuller of Clinton
and Miss Elizabeth Wherry of
Spartanburg, cousins of the
bride; Mrs. Jimmy Quattle-
baurn of Laurens and Miss
Elaine Pinson of Newberry
were bridesmaids.
The bridal attendaTits wore
full length shaped dresses of
aqua shantastik, made in em
pire style with cap sleeves,
watteau back, and a trio of
small bows accenting the bod
ice. They wore large, broad-
brimmed matching hats, short
white gloves, and carried arm
baskets of daises and ivy.
Little Miss Jenny Pack of
North Augusta, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Joey Pack (Linda
Inabinet) was flower girl. She
was dressed in a similar style
to that of the other attendants
and carried a white basket of
rose petals.
The lovely bride was escorted
and given in marriage by her
father. She wore an exquisite
formal wedding gown of silk
organza with a portrait neck
line and long sleeves ending
in calla points over her hands.
The molded bodice and sheath
skirt were enhanced by appli
ques of alencon lace. The very
full, detachable chapel train
fell from the waistline, which
was accented with a pair of
tiny bows. Her elbow-length
veil of illusion was caught to
lace and pearl tiara and she
carried a luxuriant bouquet of
Phalaenopsis orchids, step-
anotis and ivy on a lace-cov
ered white Bible.
The bride’s mother wore a
beige silk ensemble, featuring
a sleeveless coat and a man
darin neckline dress with three-
quarter bell sleeves of imported
lace; matching accessories and
a lavender orchid corsage.
The mother of the groom
wore a dress of imported pink
lace with jeweled neckline and
short sleeves; matching acces
sories and a lavender orchid
corsage.
Reception
Immediately after the cere
mony a reception was held in
the First Baptist Fellowship
Center.
Fragrant Magnolia blossoms
and foliage were used to dec
orate the reception hall and
parlor.
Guests were greeted by Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Leslie, who
also presented them to the
receiving line in the parlor.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Mathis,
Jr. directed the guests to the
register, which was kept by
Miss Pat Underwood.
Mrs. Harold Long, Mrs. Gus
Wherry and Miss Karen Kirke-
gard presided at the refresh
ment area where two tables
were set up.
Petit fours, nuts and mints
were served buffet style from
the tables. Miss Susan Wherry
of Charlotte and Miss Willene
Adams assisted in serving.
A focal point was the bride’s
table, effectively decorated in
all-white. The white taffeta
cloth had a lace overlay and
centering the table was a three
tiered wedding cake, with each
tier separated by pedestals.
White roses and wedding bells
embossed the cake, which was
placed on a reflector base in
a fluted circlet of white taf
feta. A lovely miniature bri
dal couple beneath an arch,
with suspended wedding bells,
was used on the top tier of
the cake.
After the bridal couple tra
ditionally cut the first slice of
cake and served the wedding
party in small cake boxes, mon-
ogrammed with “Margaret &
Heber.”
Dr. and Mrs. James A. Un
derwood bade the guests good
bye and invited them to stop
to see the wedding gifts at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. John
David Ruff on Nance Street.
Punch was served on the
porch as the guests arrived and
departed by Miss Kristine
Wherry of Greenville.
Mr. and Mrs. James Wherry
of Greenville presided at the
Ruff Home, where the gifts
were displayed.
Early in the evening the bri
dal couple left for a wedding
trip to the coast. For traveling
the bride chose a sleeveless
skimmer of blue and green
linen, accented with side but
tons and a chiffon scarf at
the neckline. She wore solid
blue accessories and an orchid
corsage lifted from her Bible.
The bride is a graduate of
Newberry High school and Ce
cil’s Business College in Spar
tanburg, where she received an
executive secretarial diploma.
Prior to marriage she was em
ployed at Tamper, Inc.
The bridegroom graduated
from Newberry High School
and attended Newberry College.
He is engaged in farming in
the Bush River community and
he and his bride will reside
on Route 3, Newberry.
Rehearsal Party
The wedding party and out-
of town guests were entertain
ed after the rehearsal on Sat
urday evening in the First
Baptist Fellowship Center.
Hosts were Mr. and Mrs.
Hubert Long, parents of the
bridegroom, Mr. and Mrs. John
David Ruff and Mr. and Mrs.
Olin Inabinet of Charleston.
Engagement is
announced

The bride-elect is a senior at
Greenville General Hospital
School of Nursing and will
graduate in September.
Mr. Huffstetler is a senior
at Newberry College and is also
employed with Security Corpo
ration in Newberry.
They are both 1964 graduates
of Newberry High School.
The wedding is planned for
September eight, 1967, in
Aveleigh Presbyterian Church.

bride.

West Chester, Pa., brother of
the groom; Carroll J. Addy of
Morristown, Tenn., brother-in-
law of the bride; James Addy
of Graniteville, and A1 Potter
of Columbia.
Mr. William E. Hall of West
Chfester, Penn., father of the
groom was best man.
The matron of honor, Mrs.
Carroll Addy, sister of the
bride, was attired in a full-
length gown with yellow flower
headpiece and carried long
stemmed yellow roses.
The bridesmaids were Misses
Jean Epting, Eleanor Burnette
and Dale Bundrick of Newber
ry and Miss Jean Crain of
Greer. Their dresses were iden
tical to that of the matron of
honor.
The lovely bride was escorted
by her father. Her full length
gown of white peau de soie was
enhanced by appliques of alen
con lace and seed pearls. Her
Cathedral train was attached
at the neckline. With her gown
she wore a lace mantilla.
Her prayer book was center
ed with a yellow throated or
chid with small yellow roses
cascading from the center.
The flower girl was MisS
Becky Hay of Berlin, Penna.,
cousin of the groom. The ring
hearer was Master Brent Davis
of Newberry.
The bride’s mother wore blue
cottonlace with white accessor
ies and used cymbidium orchids.
The groom’s mother wore
white lace over aqua silk with
white accessories ahd for her
corsage she used cymbidium
orchids.
Following the ceremony, the
couple received in the vesti
bule of the church. Miss Marie
Bundrick kept the Bride's
Register.
For their wedding trip to
Montreal, Canada, the bride
chose a two-piece ensemble of
celery green with a full length
floral coat and green whimsey.
She use biege accesories.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Mayes Wilson
Derrick of Newberry, She was
graduated from Newberry High
school and is studying at the
School of Nursing at Greenville
General Hospital.
The groom graduated from
Henderson High school, West
Chester, Penn, and received his
A.B. degree in sociology from
Newberry College. At present
he is a student at the Lutheran
Southern Seminary in Colum
bia.
Mr. and Mrs. Hall will re
side in Pennsylvania during the
summer, but will return to
Columbia after September 5th
