MISS DOMINICK
Four county
students win
scholarships
Four Newberry County stu
dents at Newberry College were
among 58 persons recognized
at a recent Awards Day convo
cation.
They are Cecil Fulmer, son
of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Fulmer,
Route 4; Dianne Ruff, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. Ruff,,
Route 2; Jeanette Dominick,
daughter of Mr. an Mrs W. M.
Dominick, Route 1; and Mary
Ruth Armfield, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. 0. F. Armfield
Jr., 936 Cornelia Street.
Fulmer, a sophomore, was
presented the Chemical Rubber
Company awarded for main
taining the highest average in
physics during the first sem-
este r.
Miss Ruff, a junior, received
the Business and Professional
Woman’s Club scholarship, aw
arded annually by the Newber
ry B&PW Club to a Newberry
County girl completing her
second or thiH year in the
Business Department and de
serving such recognition on the
basis of scholarship and lead
ership.
Miss Dominick was awarded
the Hencken Memorial Scholar
ship, the interest on $3,000
awarded every other year to a
rising sophomore who is of
excellent mind and character.
Miss Armfield, a sophomore,
received the J. Dave Caldwell
Scholarship which is awarded

annually to a deserving young
person, preference being given
to a student from Newberry
county. It represents the in
terest on $5,000 bequeathed the
college by Mr. Caldwell in
1966.
Gets Clemson
assistantship
A Newberry College Senior,
Katherine Kelly, is the recip
ient of a research assistantship
in microbiology at Clemson
University.
She plans to enter Clemson
in the fall of 1967 to pursue
graduate work in the Botany
and Bacteriology Department.
Miss Kelly, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Philip T. Kelly Jr.,
Newberry, is scheduled to re
