Bond buyers
may now get
freedom shares
March Savings Bonds Sales
Combined Series E and H
Savings Bonds sales for March
in Newberry County totaled
$20,130 reports Joe M. Roberts
County Savings Bonds Crair-
man.
The nation’s million of reg
ular Savings Bond buyers are
being offered a “bonus” by the
Treasury Department in the
form or “Freedom Shares”
which will go on sale Mayl,
further reports Mr. Roberts.
The new security will yield an
annual average return of 4.74
per cent when held to maturity
of 4 1-2 years, Mr. Roberts
said. Offered in denominations
of $25, $50, $75, and $100, the
notes can be bought only in
conjunction with Series E
Bonds, and only to the extent
that bonds are bought on the
Payroll Savings Plan or the
Bond-A-Month Plan.
“This means,” the Chair
man said^ “that for every $25
E Bond you buy on a regular
plan, you can also buy a $25
Freedom Share up to a limit of
$1,350 in one calendar year,
based on the face value of the
shares. You can buy more bonds
than Freedom Shares, of course,
but not the other way around.”
The cost of the new security
is $20.25 for each $25 face
value. This compares with the
$18.75 cost of a Series E Bond.
The difference is due to the fact
that the Freedom Shares
mature in 4 1-2 years, while E
Bonds must be held 7 years to
reach their $25 face value.
Mr. and Mrs. James Albert Mayes, Sr. announce the
engagement of their daughter, Mary Ann, to Robert
Havird Carlton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon C. Carlton
of 1907 Nance Street.
Miss Mayes was graduated from Newberry High
School in 1966 and is now attending Newberry College.
Mr. Carlton was graduated from Newberry High School
in 1962 and in January of this year he was graduated
from Newberry College. He is now teaching and coach
ing at Chester High School.
The wedding is planned for Saturday, July 15 at 6:00
p.m. at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church.

WOODMEN APPOINT
J. PAUL KIBLER
J. Paul Kibler, of Route 2,
Newberry, has been appointed
field representative for Wood
men of the World Life Insur
ance Society. The announce
ment was made by W. Lewis
Spearman, of Columbia, Wood
men state manager for South
Carolina.
A native of Newberry coun
ty, Mr. Kibler was educated in
the local schools. He is a Mas
on, is treasurer of the Ruri-
tans, a member of Woodmen
Camp 1054, and a member of
the Lutheran church.
Mr. Kibler is married and
has one child. His hobby is
hunting.

Private Tony C. Jackson, 23,

Newberry, was high scorer on
the proficiency test held at the
end of his company’s basic
training at Fort Campbell, on
April 14.
He received his B.A. degree
from Clemson University.
